  Some people subscribe to the buy more as the stock price plunges.  They call it long term investing or value investing.

   

  I don't have to mention who does this kind of investing.

  but how much can you average down when using dollar cost averaging? To me if it hits a certain limit, that means that the company is in big trouble and it is no longer consider undervalue but worthless.

  You just cross your fingers and hope that in 10, 20 , 50 years time, the stock price goes above your purchase price lor.
