All the shares in my portfolio is for investment purpose. As in, I buy it for the dividends and growth potential.Originally posted by iveco:I see some of you guys with huge portfolios. Are those shares speculated on or have you had them for a long time?
As for me, the only shares I have are UOB and APB. THose are for long-term holding.
1) You buy shares from the market through a broker or an internet trading platform. Buying shares from a broker is much more expensive than buying it from an internet platform. The older generation would probably prefer to trade shares through a broker. The younger generation prefers to trade shares online.Originally posted by *Lord Kang*:Actually i am interested in shares, so can i ask u guys a few questions..
Normally how u go about buying the shares??
Go online and buy personally or go through a agent??
How much do u guys normally buy??What is the minimum amount to buy??
They always mention 1 lot 2 lot..1 lot equals to 1000 shares right??
And the price to pay is using the cost of one share X the number of shares u want right??

This one has blasted off to space & gone to mars, my gain is nearly 300% on top of dat they will pay $1.62 per share dividend with rights issue very soon. I will own this share in the end for free and still enjoy huge capital gains.
PUC: bought may/june this yr, this one just took off for the moon, my gain is abt 85%, recently macquire infrastructure bought a chunk of their port operation in china, I hear they still have a ton of section 44 credits not yet used. I think it will be a bumper FY2005.

Im using Phillips. So far no problems except that some of their Listed Company Data is outdated. Phillips isnt the cheapest in terms of broking charges. But they have a stable online trading platform. I think eq.com.sg is the cheapest. They give Linkpoint rebates also.Originally posted by *Lord Kang*:Which securities firm will u guys recommend??
DBS vickers or philip's on-line electronic mart system or others
in terms of ease of trade, customer service, reputation, commission charges all those...
Intending to sign up for one..But don't know which one is better..Hope u guys can provide some insights..Thanks..

Pls call your phillips broker for more details.Originally posted by *Lord Kang*:i hope someone can help me...I have an account with poems and interested to buy a particular share but intending to sell before the payment date...I guess this is a form of contra trading right but when i click on the "Contra" buttom, I can't use that function...I guess maybe my account cannot play contra...
