it is always easy to tell people how much you have won coz you were lucky enough to bet on the right stock. i am sure you cant say that people who invested in creative dont understand the market right? the same goes for those unlucky investors who owned informatics, ACCS, CAO and citiraya.
citiraya and CAO are now near worthless. imagine you have 10 lots each. it will work out to 10k each. isnt it true that just one mistake is enough to wipe out your winnings? how long does it take for you to win 10k?
Although Luck and risk is involved, you can always go around them if you know what you are investing in. Nothing is risk free. But if you know how to make investing work in your favour, in the long run, you will be a winner just like Warren Buffet.
Just out of curiosity, what king of shares did you invested in that made you lose 26k? Care to share? -

Chartered has real bad mgmt.. they can make a loss when most of the electronic coys like Intel and seagate are posting good profits. today they closed at 1.42..
IMO, I'm pretty bullish about banks. -

Seems that u guys talk about risk. Some say it's too risky, some say u can do homework and manage the risk.
I agree risk is real.
I wonder if any of u guys trade derivatives? It's a great way to control ur risk. Or u can diversify, or trade indexes.
Definitely the risk level is different for different people, not just the risk appetite.
In fact, u can have so called 'low risk appetite' , and really so, but actually are exposing urself to high risk. And vice versa.
So, I don't think one's risk appetite is that important at all. What is important is to control the actual risk. -

Currency trading requires a huge investment.. and is very unpredictable.. thats what I heard anyway..
As for Shade said abt risk.. i agree somewhat.. everything has risk... even if you do business, you will experience risk... there is no guarantee that your product will sell even if you do your homework, planing, accounts, marketing right..
But we all know that the business and investing are the main key ways to real wealth... except for CEOS and highly paid professionals/sportspeople/celebs ... how many salaried workers are multi-millionaires?? -

Those who speculate in DBS before 19 July make money liao.
Im suspecting there may be a mistake in Starhub's announcement of its profits. Just last year, they were making a loss of $10million, now they say profits are $50million....How did they earn so much money? Where did the money come from? I dont think broadband sales contributed to their profits.... -

Starhub's profits came from their mobile biz.. It constitutes 52% of their biz and it grew 18%... w a 25% increase in Subscribers base. Plus they had better margins this quarter. I think the main reason was that they were paying a lot lesser on Depreciation and Amortisation this year .
Today, a lot of profit taking ahead of the National Day hols. -
