The contract for the upcoming Prince Edward station on the Circle Line (CCL), as well as its associated tunnels, has been awarded to China Railway Tunnel Group, the Land Transport Authority announced on Monday (Oct 9).
The firm, which won with a S$310.8 million bid, will be responsible for building the the three-level underground station in Palmer Road, as well as two tunnels linking the station to the upcoming Cantonment station, for $310.8 million.
China Railway is responsible for the construction of several national trunk railways and urban rail projects across China.
It successfully completed an underpass recently for the Havelock station on the Thomson-East Coast Line (TEL), and is currently constructing another underpass for the Stevens station on the TEL, both built using a unique rectangular tunnel-boring machine.
Last month, Koh Brothers Building & Civil Engineering Contractor was awarded a S$225.4 million contract for works relating to the construction of cut-and-cover tunnels and other structures between Prince Edward station and the existing Marina Bay station.
The 4km-long sixth stage of the Circle Line (CCL6) will have three stations - Keppel, Cantonment and Prince Edward - and will connect the HarbourFront and Marina Bay stations, closing the loop for the CCL.
The three new stops will bring the total number of stations on the line to 33, including 12 interchange stations with other lines.
Works on the CCL6 contract will start by the end of this year (2017) and are expected to be completed by 2025.
“With CCL6, commuters will enjoy a direct route between areas in the west like Pasir Panjang and Kent Ridge and key employment areas in the Central Business District, as well as upcoming developments in the Marina Bay area,” said an LTA spokesman.
