The twelve stations that comprise Stage 2 of the Downtown Line will open this December, half a year ahead of schedule.
Announcing this during a ministerial visit in Bukit Panjang on Sunday, Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew said that the contractors were able to make up a delay caused by the insolvency of Alpine Bau, the main contractor responsible for three stations, through longer working hours and more efficient working processes.
He thanked residents living along the Bukit Timah corridor for accepting the longer construction hours which allowed the MRT line to open ahead of schedule.
Downtown Line Stage 2's twelve stations include three interchange stations at Little India, Newton and Botanic Gardens, which will link up the North-East Line, North-South Line, Circle Line and the Bukit Panjang LRT.
