North-East Line train service resumes after delay
SINGAPORE - Train service on the North-East Line (NEL) resumed on Wednesday evening after a delay of about 25 minutes.
The service was delayed "due to power fault", the SBS Transit tweeted at 7.18pm.
In a tweet at 7.41pm, the operator said: "NEL full svc has resumed. Free passing bus rides available between Farrer Pk & Hougang stn."
In its latest tweet at 8.05pm, the operator said the free bus rides had stopped. “NEL full svc has resumed. Free passing bus rides have ceased,” it tweeted.

I wonder if he regrets the career move.
MINDEF better. They don't have trains. At most, aircraft or tanks break down only.
breakdown or not, they still get their high pay and bonus
SINGAPORE - SMRT and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) have identified three possible causes for the power trips on Tuesday evening, which eventually led to a shutdown of the North-South and East-West lines for over two hours during the evening peak period.
After doing a walk through the tunnels, engineers found that the insulation on two power cables along the North-South line were damaged.
There was also a faulty voltage relay at the Kranji power substation and water leakage along a section of the Tanjong Pagar tunnel .
All these damaged components have been fixed or replaced, said SMRT's managing director of trains Lee Ling Wee at a press conference on Wednesday morning.
He added however that they could not be "100 per cent certain" that these were the causes of the power trips and SMRT engineers will continue to check through the system after revenue service on Wednesday.
On Wednesday morning, trains were running as per usual at headways of two minutes during the morning peak period.
While the operator had planned to shut down service from 11am to 4pm, they found that trains were running smoothly and decided to continue service as per normal throughout the day.
Mr Lee at the press conference also explained what happened on Tuesday evening leading up to the disruption.
At about 6pm, there were more than 20 counts of traction power trips across the network. These were remotely reset by officers manning the Operations Control Centre.
Power trips occur when the train system detects a surge of power in the system and as a precautionary measure shuts down.
However around 7pm, there were three power trips that could not be reset remotely and needed to be done at the station level.
As the cause of the power trips could not be isolated, SMRT decided to shut down the NSEWL lines after detraining passengers at station platforms, he said.
SMRT ran trains along the westbound and eastbound lines first and found that trains could function smoothly but hit snags along the north and southbound lines.
what happened to maintenance?!?!
What maintenance?

That was to pay for the CEO's decent salary.
Where are Tuck Yew and his boss all these while?
"To bring higher rail reliability there will be road bumps,"
SINGAPORE — There was no power tripping on the MRT system during the evening peak period, said a Land Transport Authority (LTA) spokesperson in a statement today (July 8), following a massive disruption on the North-South and East-West Lines yesterday evening.
However, the LTA spokesperson noted that “faults may still occur from time to time” as the LTA and SMRT search for the root cause of the yesterday’s power trip and urged commuters to check for updates before starting their trip.
The spokesperson said that the North-South and East-West Lines, in operation since 5.30am, are now operating at normal headways, or waiting time. In total, 119 trains were deployed to operate at intervals of two to three minutes on both lines. There were no power trips observed this morning as well.
“Over the course of last night, engineers have tried to systematically identify the root cause of the disruptions. They have conducted visual checks on trains, carried out checks on the MRT tracks and on the power systems, including the substation power supply equipment. LTA and SMRT will continue checks on the system after today’s operating hours,” said the spokesperson.
The LTA and SMRT, in a press conference today, identified at least three problems that had occurred yesterday, and which have been rectified. They were: Damaged insulation of two power cables along the North-South line, a faulty relay system at Kranji’s power substation, and a water leakage close to the third-rail insulator at Tanjong Pagar station.

NSEWL breakdown: Independent experts to look into cause of disruption
SINGAPORE: Five experts from Sweden and Japan will conduct an independent assessment of the power supply infrastructure and other railway trackside installations along the North-South and East-West Lines (NSEWL), after a 3.5-hour disruption crippled the two lines on Jul 7, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said on Tuesday (Jul 14).
The team of experts, led by Mr Mats Onner from Sweden’s Parsons Brinkerhoff and Mr Hiroto Ikeda from Japan’s Meidensha Corp, will focus on identifying the root cause of the power trip and proposing areas for improvement to prevent recurrence.
The experts will also review the current condition of the power supply and trackside installations, as well as provide recommendations to enhance the overall system and its maintenance.
They will be briefed by LTA on the Jul 7 disruption, then given full access to the infrastructure and installations along the NSEWL during non-service hours, the transport authority said. It added that the team will be assisted by engineers from LTA and SMRT, and will also be analysing the data collated by engineers since the incident.
Parsons Brinkerhoff was previously the consultant for mechanical services on the NSEWL, as well as the electrical and mechanical services on the North East Line, Circle Line and Downtown Line. Meidensha designed and installed the power supply system on the NSEWL, and is also the contractor providing the power supply system for the northern stretch of the Thomson-East Coast Line, according to LTA.
The independent assessment is expected to be completed in August.
