...
Let's start a new thread series.
Here, you may write anything about everything regarding what's coming up in our beloved RTS!
ie. if have news about Eastern Region Line (now combined with Thomson Line and called 'Thomson East Coast Line'), comment about it here. if have news about Jurong Region Line, comment about it here. if have... well, I think you get the idea.
need not be in order.
as and when have news about our beloved RTS system, just write here.
best is we can discuss news about several future MRT developments at the same time (simultaneously).
*RTS (Rapid Transit System) - "a ground based passenger transit system operated by passenger-carrying vehicles constrained to operate on a fixed guideway." (page 35).
ooh, I am so excited!
Let the discussions begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
our Singapore rail system map by 2024:
really can't wait for Jurong Region Line to be inside (because I stay in Jurong area ).
Sooner or later u walk less than 2mins got one MRT station riaoz
Dunno y so many stations in marine parade area and waste more time to travel to the other side.
Sometimes taking bus is much faster then MRT like from marine parade to orchard, 36 will still be packed
from jurong side to city only 1 line.. 1-2 million ppl living in jurong leh.. Poor planning should prioritise jurong first

yup M Parade line is a bit redundant... N bus to city is faster now...

actually, from my observations, it seems that when comes to MRT, the east side will have it before west side has. back then, when the platform screen doors were added, the installation started in the east, then gradually come to the west.
I think that's why the first bus contracts package is in the west, probably because the government does not want to make the west people feel inferior to the east people.
while east people get new train (and features) (eg. east side get Circle Line first) first, west people get new bus (and features) (eg. west side get SMRT Double Decker buses first) first.
Anyway, yeah, I also think Eastern Region Line a bit redundant. The east coast area is actually quite well served by East West Line. Furthermore, there's already Circle Line there. Why is there a need for another MRT line there?
I think the Eastern Region Line is more for people from other parts (in particular the people staying in the North and along North South Line) of Singapore to travel to East Coast and Changi areas, less for people staying in the East Coast and Changi areas.
At the West part of Singapore, Downtown Line is in the pipeline, to provide an alternative for people who are now commuting on the North South Line to Jurong East and then on the East West Line to the city.
When the Downtown Line opens, I think LTA should review the bus network at Yew Tee, Choa Chu Kang, Bukit Panjang and Bukit Batok areas, to ensure that there is good bus connection to connect the residents there to the Downtown Line - while maintain bus connection to the North South Line - so that people there can opt to commute on the Downtown Line to the city. If the bus network complements the Downtown Line well, I am confident that the loading on the East West Line before (evening)/ after (morning) Jurong East during peak hours can be (significantly) lower.
Whereas for the Jurong Region Line, I think the line is primarily meant to provide MRT connection to Tengah and the future employment places at Bulim, Jalan Bahar and Jurong Lake District. It should be viewed as an "extension" to the North South Line and East West Line, rather than as a line by itself. Jurong Region Line does not bring people from the West to the City. (when DTL 2 opens, I think EWL should be able to handle the load already) Instead, JRL extends the coverage of NSL and EWL, and CRL in the future.
As for the Cross Island Line, I think it is meant for the future. Not sure how to describe it, because the areas (eg. Paya Lebar Airport area, Jurong Industrial Estate area, Pasir Ris, etc.) it (seems to) ply is quite likely to change in future. Can only say that CRL is the MRT line of the future and for the future.
...
To think about it, the Eastern Region Line could be the first MRT line to be constructed entirely on reclaimed land.
"Tenders for the new Line will be put out next year and construction is expected to start in 2016" and "the first seven stations from Tanjong Rhu to Bayshore will be ready in 2023." It is going to take seven years for the line to be constructed and open. Based on this duration, I guess it is going to take ~4 years to construct, ~2 years to install fixtures and ~1 year to test. Thanks to advancement in technology, it is now faster to construct a MRT line.
Meanwhile, on the Jurong Region Line, assuming the NTU section is LRT (since ridership may be low during NTU vacations and due to low demand from JW HDB areas), the MRT line could be just around 15km.
[If the NTU section is LRT, the alignment could be (or similar to) the one at NTU's masterplan (page 49). I believe the LRT will intersect with JRL (and terminate) at ave 4/jalan bahar area (I strongly believe there will be a JRL station located at where blk 167-170 is, because these blocks are under SERS and will be demolished by around 2017/8), rather than with EWL (and terminate) at Boon Lay Way, to encourage people at NTU and Clean Tech Park to commute on JRL to CCK, instead of commute on EWL and NSL to CCK, and also because there's already bus 179 and 199 from NTU to Boon Lay MRT.]
The LRT can be elevated, whereas the MRT may be underground. If the 13km ERL would require eight years (till 2024) to construct, the (~15km) JRL MRT line should require around nine years.
As mentioned, JRL feasibility studies has already started. Assuming it started in June this year, it should be completed by June 2016. By June 2018 (after Detailed Engineering Studies), we should know the alignment and stations of JRL. Based on the ERL, construction for JRL should start at around sixteen months later, by January 2020.
erm... To think about it, how is it possible to construct from January 2020 and open from 2025, if the JRL MRT line is to be underground, when it would take around nine years?
Unless, JRL is an elevated MRT line, which I think it is quite possible because there may already be provisions (refer to the map, or better still, the map showing land lots, at onemap.sg) made for it. LTA says JRL will open from 2025. If Tuas West MRT line takes 5 years (from 2012 to 2017) to construct and open, I think JRL MRT line will also take 5 years (from 2020 to 2025) - if it is also elevated.

Katong Park will be near Meyer Rd
Amber Rd near Amber Gardens(road)
M Parade os Parkway Parade bus stop
M Terrace near M Parade NPC
Siglap near Siglap Rd/E Coast Rd junction
Rest i have no idea...

About your earlier post on TEL.
M Terrace is probably CHIJ Katong/St Pat
Siglap is probably V Sch
Bayshore may be Chai Chee Sec there
Bedok South may be Temasek Sec there
Sungei Bedok may be Bedok Camp/Upp East Coast Terminal there
Right now, only service I can thought of TEL affecting is 531. The way TEL is set up hardly affect MP services at all.

Notice that there are many flats being constructed at old Keat Hong camp area...
Wont be surprised a new station will be built to alleviate crowding at CCK
The future Jurong Region Line will go to Choa Chu Kang MRT Station from Tengah area.
Personally, I do not think the JRL will ply Avenue 6, because it may be too near to the North South Line MRT tracks, and also too complicated to build (even if underground) because there's just so many HDB flats in the way.
Many people predict that JRL may ply Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3 at CCK to run between Tengah and Choa Chu Kang MRT Station.
There may be a JRL station at Choa Chu Kang Avenue 3.

There is a gap between Jurong East NS to Kent Ridge circle. .
Hope can be filled by Teban Gardens, Pandan, Clementi West, West Coast

Hi. When I say shift thread, I meant relocating it to another forum. Like literally move the whole thing to another forum. Not to create another thread at another forum, using the same name.
Actually, to think about it again, we can make do with the original forum (this forum), instead of having a new forum. This way, all the efforts put in and the discussions made in the past would still be recognised and be refered to.
Not to worry if there seems to be no one moderating this forum. There's always someone moderating this forum (and all the forums in SGforums).
If you want, can you help me create a new thread in this forum (Singapore Trains), that is meant for forum users to share their experiences (eg. MRT breakdown, MRT travel very slow, etc.) on the MRT?

Bro i mean connection from Changi to Woodlands...
stops at PUNGGOL, the oth meaning fr Punggol to Woodlands
There is rail from woodlands to punggol?
so... there's this Cross Island Line being proposed... and everyone's unhappy that a section of the line is being proposed to go through the nature reserve... that some alternative routes are being suggested for the line to skip that section.
actually, the solution is obvious: don't go into Nature Reserve.
Instead, after Clementi, make a turn at Turfcity and run along Pan Island Expressway and interchange with Bukit Brown Station. Then follow Circle line until Marymount station and go to Ang Mo Kio, and continue as per what is being proposed.
maybe don't even have to interchange at Circle Line. just have to run along Bukit Brown and Toa Payoh areas like how the water pipes run underground. express all the way to Ang Mo Kio~
Rail to prepare for 6.9 million.

well, I think there's plans to extend the Changi-Punggol branch to Woodlands in future (beyond year 2030).
here's a section of the feasibility studies document, taken from http://www.skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=1582664&page=16: (note point 2.16.6)
a section of feasibility studies document:
The 'future spur line' could be from Punggol to Seletar to Yishun to Woodlands.

actually, why must go to Ang Mo Kio?
Why not just from Bukit Brown go to Toa Payoh, then to Paya Lebar airport area and split to Punggol and Pasir Ris?
the north section can be served by the future spur line later (beyond year 2030).
