In some countries, such as Queensland in Australia, the seats in their train carriages are arranged similar to how the seats in the buses are arranged – seats positioned perpendicular to the wall, instead of parallel to it.
No doubt, this arrangement increases the seating capacity and more passengers can get a seat but I am not sure if this is indeed better for us, if our MRT seats are arranged perpendicularly.
What do you think?
No.
SG commuters like to stand more. Why? Coz most of the time it takes less than a minute for a train to travel between stops.
Trains in Australia run to suburban areas out of the city. The "metro" there is actually a sort of suburban commuter trains. And Australia has low population too. Standing on the trains there is therefore not preferred. In order for a more enjoyable ride to the outer suburbans they have end-on seats.
Bench seats are already considered a nuisance to some commuters already. Can you imagine if those seats really end up in SG trains?
The train lines of Singapore are not as long as those of some countries.
Without seats already filled to the brim.
You still want perpendicular seats?
although it will create more seats,it also means lesser standing space and means lesser capacity and less efficent and if people cannot board the train, they need wait for asecond train and cycle will just continue until peak hours end and it means people taking longer time to reach home
All seats reserved for elderly lor
our trains are designed to maximise standing space and mobility of passengers
if like seats in the buses, the train door have to be opened for a longer period of time for people to squeeze in squeeze out
