I took a sip of water (yes just one sip only and it's purely water), and i got warned by one of the mrt officers. I told him that i'm not drinking soft drinks, i'm drinking water, and he replied me that water is also considered drink so it's not allowed in the mrt station. He also emphasized that he will fine me next time if he caught me drinking water again.
I took 3 trains today and i felt very thirsty. I also have some health problems and i get dehydrated easily. All i took is ONE sip of WATER and i got a warning from that mrt officer.
Wtf? Is he being unreasonable, or do Singaporeans get fined for drinking water?
Why is Singapore becoming so strict? I think i am beginning to hate my own country
Do not understimate the resourcefullness of Singaporeans in getting around the rules.
You may think just plain water should be allowed, what about Pink Dolphin, then fruit juice, then coffee, promise it won't be spilled. Gin, vodka look like plain water.
You can drink all you want before, and after the train trip. Must it be inside the train and cannot be anywhere else? How long is your train trip?
you should have just splash the water on the floor around you and walk off like a boss...
I won't be surprised that 100 years from today, Singapore will start jailing people for drinking water in mrt station. Now it's just a fine of $500.
But 100 years from today, people would end up getting jailed for taking a sip of water in mrt stations.
I am very sure about this, considering how strict Singapore is.
100 years from now they won't be sent to jail, that would be barbaric.
They would be sent to Terra Nova.
Ppl drink water, they lay down the Law. But when train break down, they disappear.
When passengers get abused or involved in fights or being bullied, where are they?
Are you Singaporean? If yes, you will be fined next time.
If not then you are safe
No sweet drink we can understand lah, its to maintain cleaness of the trains
but no plain water is like.....

D
Head no clue, Tail no sense
lol..make sure when you drink, no mrt officers around...but no guarantee the other passengers won't warn you :P
kena before.
at the most u tell him/her you're sick.
Stupid rule. I don't know why so many msians like to migrate to singapore. Their laws are so draconian. Its suffocating to live in that type of environment.
Eg: The city harvest case. Even if kong hee and his 7 cronies are convicted, they don't deserve life imprisonment for cheating $23 million. In Australia, murderers get away with lighter sentences than that.
Do you know you can buy those PVC skin bags from Army surplus shops. You can conceal this water bags under your shirt, it has a long transparent PVC straw-pipe that leads to your collar. So you can conspiciously drink water without the MRT staff watching.
TS very stupid to drink water in plain sight of MRT staff. There is something called tactical, and timing.
People can eat candy, and drink bubble tea on the train and get away with it, but not the TS, geez, WTF.

Maybe.
But if somebody cheated you out of $10,000 the spore govt charge the fella for CBT and convict the poor fellow 100 years jail sentence, would you feel the punishment is overbound?

I don't see the logic of banning people from drinking water at the MRT station.
Its bull. This contravene human rights. This is a stupid rule. What is the logic of this rule? to stop people from spilling water accidentaly? Would that dirt the floor? rubbish.

Last month, I was with my niece (4 years old) and i let her drink a slip of water from her small water bottle. However i was scolded and abused by a fellow passenger. He step on my feet various time and scold me simply because i allow my niece to drink water in the train. It was also reported in the chinese waobao. I don't see the logic too but it is also up to your luck as well

No food or drink is to be consumed on board the train or on the station platform. However, I think the rules are slightly relaxed if you are outside the paid area of the concourse. Still, no smoking is allowed anywhere within the station premises.
Tactical a bit next time... look left look right before drinking!
