SINGAPORE: Construction work for the Tuas West extension of the East-West MRT line commenced Friday.
Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew officiated at the groundbreaking ceremony at the future Tuas link station on Friday morning.
The extension from
Joo Koon station will see the construction of four stations -- Gul
Circle, Tuas Crescent, Tuas West and Tuas link -- as well as a
26-hectare depot.
When completed in 2016, the extension will boost connectivity to the Tuas area, serving more than 100,000 commuters daily.
Mr Lui said the four stations are located close to many offices and factories to help cut travelling time by up to 35 minutes.
