SINGAPORE: The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has completed installing half-height screen doors at all 36 surface stations on the North-South and East-West MRT lines ahead of schedule.
Kranji was the last station to get the screen doors, which started operation on Wednesday morning.
LTA had earlier pledged to complete the installation by June this year.
Mr
Hawazi Daipi, Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Education &
Manpower and MP for Sembawang GRC, said: "I am pleased that the LTA has
completed the installation of half-height platform screen doors on all
elevated stations ahead of time."
The platform screen doors are meant to enhance commuter safety and reduce the incidence of track intrusions.
Pasir
Ris was the first station to be fitted with half-height platform screen
doors under the pilot stage in 2009. The screen doors were subsequently
rolled out to all stations.
