SINGAPORE: Another 51 kilometres will be added to Singapore's rail network when the Downtown Line, North-South Line Extension and Tuas West Extension are completed.
Transport Minister of State Josephine Teo outlined a picture of Singapore's public transport landscape within the next five years'.
However, she said it will take time for rail capacity improvements to be completed.
She also said the Government's reviewing rail and bus financing frameworks to ensure that public transport remains affordable.
As
to how a new fleet of 800 buses will be deployed, Ms Teo said the
benefits will have to be spread out, with more details to be announced.
Ms
Teo said: "Our strategies must serve us well even beyond the next five
years, and therefore, we will also review the Land Transport Masterplan
which was put out four years ago. Over the next year or so, we will
engage key stakeholders and invite ideas from the public to develop an
updated Masterplan to serve as our roadmap for the next 10 to 15 years."
