Hi all :) Isit feasible for SMRT to use seatless trains to accommodate more commuters during peak hours? These trains will also provide more compartment space for passengers. Of course, there will be also have a normal train which have seats. So there will be ALTERNATE trains arriving at the platform. Commuters can choose which train to board, either seatless or with seats. For example, if John hope to get into a seatless train but the training arriving is a train with seats, he can choose not to board and wait for the next train which will be a seatless train.
Ist train – Seatless,
2nd train – With Seats.
my suggestion: Double decker bus
no one will do that cos both trains will be packed like sardines there is no diff for the majority leh
I think that makes perfect sense.
For people with short trip - they may opt to stand in a lessy crowed train
sometimes, u need to think about the old, disabled people
This can be implemented, but remember SMRT tried bumracks on the C651s and the reaction was bochup at best.
OK, you wanna implement this. It can be done. Strip out ALL the seats except the pairs at the corners of the coaches. In place of the seven-seat benches, put either padded bumrests or just plain horizontal bars plus moar vertical poles and moar grabrails.
So, we have special areas for uncle and auntie to sit down, lots of cramming room for young, hardy you, me and everyone else.
But you all enjoy the bumrests, I'll go take a DD.
Take out seats and increase fares some more.
erm, i very young, but i carry a heavy school bag, i need to sit down, or i will be swinging my bag around

Put your bag on your feet and stand like that, one hand holding the strap of your bag. Works every time for me.
Yes, increase fare, because of the 'high engineering costs of projects for your benefit'.

OMG INCOME OPPORTUNITY AGAIN!!
i once went into a no seat cabin. pissed off totally.
very curious, what do u look at in the train? what kind of emotion do u have on face?

It's on your feet, if they step on it they also step on your foot.
Generally speaking, however, it's better to just keep the seats. We've done the experiment before.
don;t siao lah - like that might as well have some midnight sleazy train services
angel7030's angels can help out

yup.
but people like me will complain very smelly
do u like having seatless when you travel to sentosa by ferry or kusu island?
what about having seatless bus as well? good to u?
you ever see sometimes entering a station... got aunties outside spot the empty seats before the doors open.....
have you seen before their reaction when the train comes in and the doors they are standing at will open to the seatless part of the carriage. they tio shocked!!!!
For the toilets, put it at the far back of the lower deck and ventilate it well to outside.
As for the seatless train concept, forget it.
I am okay with seatless if I travel the train for a few stops and i am not carrying anything heavy
Who wouldn't be?
But if I'm carrying stuff... Meh.
thats' why they stupid, the top tiers empty should have some space for people to put luggage, some toilest in the train will be good. take away those TVs and faciful stuff that cost money to maintain and use - e,g cleaning or electricity, have the people ther please stop talking to their own colleagues at wrk and strt moving around or watching for hoggers who during rush hour stand in the middle of any walk and block people's way. get your trains and track maintained right in the first place. public transport system first class should have no accident and no disruption rate, 24/7 365, for eternity. you do all these, you then earn the right to increase fares every now and then
Overhead compartment, yes!
But toilets on the train, no. Put toilets in the paid area of the MRT station, settle jor.
