SMRT chief executive Saw Phaik Hwa apologised to commuters affected by Thursday's five-hour long disruption on the North South Line.
Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Friday afternoon, Ms Saw said: 'We are very sorry that this happened.'
She promised that SMRT would spare no effort to prevent a recurrence of Thursday's incident.
She also said it was very important that SMRT improve its incident management plans and crowd management.
oh. tts all?
For every dept, if the boss is not around, the deputy should come in for any crisis.
We are too kind to them.
It is time for them to perform their duties and not rubber stamp any fare increase when the transport company ask for it and without any service improvement.
The transport company should employed the specialist to check the system with the ministry to perform the audit.
The tax payers should not be paying for lapse or breakdown in the service of an private listed company.
They do not get any money when the company make money.
Everyone is getting fed up at SMRT.
Even ChannelNewsAsia simply couldn't give two hoots already and simply reported the service disruptions without waiting for an official press release from SMRT.
Frankly speaking, the only thing that the CEO can do to placate everyone is to say 'I hereby tender my resignation effective immediately.'
She should not resign as she should remain to rectify any issues that may be further hidden.
She should stay and face the music.
One thing for sure, she and her management team do not justify any bonus payment for all the breakdowns and inconvenience caused.

SMRT CEO apologises for train disruption.
SINGAPORE: SMRT CEO
Saw Phaik Hwa on Friday offered her sincere apologies to all commuters
affected in Thursday night's five-hour MRT network breakdown on the
north-south line.
Speaking at a news conference Friday afternoon
at the SMRT Headquarters, Ms Saw promised a full investigation into
what caused the breakdown.
She said SMRT will learn from the incident and improve on giving better information.
"We
do apologise especially those who experienced considerable
inconvenience... What we can promise is that we will spare no effort in
preventing such an occurrence," said Ms Saw.
"I will personally
look into improving our incident management plan, especially in the
areas of giving timely and better information, as well as crowd
management, in both our stations and in the trains," she added.
SMRT
cited a possible alignment problem in the rail system as the cause of
the disruption, and deployed some 60 staff to test for alignment on
Thursday night after the incident.
However, the exact point at which the alignment was off has not been established yet.
The disruption affected 127,000 passengers, and some 1,000 commuters were also trapped in each of the four trains that stalled.
More than 300 staff who were not working at that time were activated to help commuters.
SMRT
acknowledged that the rail network has grown, and hence is more
complex. It said this made it difficult for the operator to execute its
emergency plans.
SMRT said it will review its standard operating procedures.
SMRT
also said it will be working to improve its communication strategies.
This includes possibly broadcasting recorded announcements in four
languages.
SMRT has also apologised for the "income opportunity"
template that was used by SMRT Taxi on Thursday following the train
disruption.
It said this was a "very bad mistake", and the right template should have said "service disruption".

what is the last 2 sentences about?????
Saw should resign. Last I heard she's upgraded from a mercedes to a ferrari, all this at the expense of sgporean commuters.
Imagine you're going home after work and the MRT breaks down, what else? Take cab la. What should have been a $2 trip now becomes $20.
where did the 'income opportunity' thing come in?
someone actually said that to the public?

SMRT broadcast a message to their taxi after the MRT service disruption, telling the TD that there is income opportunity....

after so many incidents, she still never resign mah (Changi Depot, Bishan depot, and so many breakdown- - the tampines one? CCL? and this?)
Cannot say "let's move on" because commuters might retort:
Mrt trains cannot move.

I forgot one thing.
The income lost from train can be earned by taxi and bus.
Hope it will never happened again.
Possible conspiracy theories:
1) SMRT taxi revised their fares a couple of days ago, and according to news, business went down as fewer people are willing to take taxis.
And coincidentally, Circle line and North-South line are operated by SMRT, and they just happen to fail at peak hours, after the taxi fare hike. And suddenly the taxi business is booming, with people being forced to take taxi, with the mrt service disruption.
2) Fines are not enough for SMRT to wake up their idea. SBS was fined $700 and SMRT $300 for service quality breach in 2010 by the Public Transport Council (PTC).
They seem to have not learn their lesson, and the $300 fine really is a joke in light of what happened in the past 3 days.
3) Alstom is the manufacturer of train signal relay systems. It was involved in China's deadly high-speed train crash in Wenzhou, after its signal relays failed.
The circle line system supplier happens to be Alstom too. Is there something wrong with Alstom's products?

What else you want?
Ask them to credit $50 into your ez link card as compensation?
What I want for xmas are:
- Reduction of SMRT fare.
- No more fare increase for the next five years.
- Free ride for Xmas Eve, Xmas, New Year Eve and New Year.
- Install backup power on the train for lighting and ventilation.
- Better Emergency procedure in handling future "income opportunity".
- Leave the DJ alone cos he is doing fellow singaporean a favour.
- Train the train drivers and station manager in proper crisis management.
Eat shit bitch.
one power line down no emergency lighing 1? which shmz company build the tunnel one. ther eis suppose to be separate power lines powered separately. one in service, the other standy, or switched on warmed up eriodically before switching back. one power line no backup down bluff kids arh - so dangerious, somemore NEL and circle line no driver in front 1, like ghost train -
