There were 73 incidents of commuter related intrusions on the MRT and LRT tracks from 2008 to 2010.
Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Transport Teo Ser Luck revealed this
in Parliament in response to questions raised by MP Zaqy Mohamed.
Mr Teo said 70% of the cases, were deliberate with passengers going down
to the track to retrieve dropped items or crossing the tracks as a
short cut.
The remaining 30% are typically involving commuters that fall onto the tracks due to some illness.
During the same time period, there were two accidents involving service staff, on train tracks.
He said procedures are put into place to ensure safety for all commuters and service staff.
The Land Transport Authority is also in the process of installing half
height platform screen doors at all 36 elevated MRT lines on the North
South and East West lines.
To date, the screen doors are operational in 9 MRTstations, like Pasir Ris and Jurong East and Lakeside.
Mr Teo said installation works is not an easy task.
"Carrying out platform screen door on an operational MRT line is
a challenging task. Installation works can only commence after revenue
service hours and narrowed to a narrow window of about 2-3 hours each
night. We seek the public's patience and understanding on this."
Mr Teo said works on stations on the East West line are scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of this year.

I do happen to see a staff standing at the edge beyond to yellow line before and walked along the pathway during peak hours. This is also another measues to get ppl behind the yellow line and the staff is not over-concerned by ownself. However this method procures risk as well
East West Line HHPSDs going to finish by this year? Can't be possible. Perhaps January 2012.
Then after that BPLRT would be the next jumping target once all HHPSDs are constructed and working.
