It was unfortunate to walk from nearby busstops to Holland Village station, one may have to walk for 6-8 minutes.
Only bus stop along Holland Ave (opposite Holland Village, SBST48, SMRT970, SMRT106, SMRT61) is at the station door stop. One may have to walk for 300-350m from other busstops, which are:
a. Busstop along Holland Ave (OS Blk 12) - 300m
b. Busstop along Holland Road (OS Holland Village, SMRT61, SMRT970, SMRT77, SMRT75, SBST7, SBST95, SBST165) - 350m
c. Busstop along Holland Road (Opposite Holland Village) - 300m
Ease of transfer from buses to trains is probably an important criteria in deciding if one would abandon the train and take a direct bus rather...
Holland Village station was situated at a junction, unfortunately the busstops were not relocated or added to allow more buses to stop at it door steps.
Hope LTA would relocate the busstops to make bus-train transfer indeed a breeze...
As far as I know, bus services would be amended when Circle Line Stage 4 and 5 opens.

LTA says that as long a MRT is within 500m of a bus stop, it is considered to be near the station. Relocating bus stops will however cause problems such as readjusting distance fares and sometimes too close to preceding bus stop or previous bus stop. All I can say is that they should have one more entrance to the station that is closer to the bus stop at Holland Rd.
Uh, Marymount?

Agreed, had took train to Marymount and intended to make transfer to Holland V.
The bus stop along Marymount Road was nowhere to be seen when exited from the station. And was discouraged by the overhead bridge. And had to give up on taking bus SBST 74 from Marymount Road to Lornie Road to make transfer to SBST165.
And in the end I choose to walk to bus stop along Upper Thomson Road to take SBST165. A 12 min walk.

Each station should have at least a pair of bus stop that stop at the station door step. 500m is just too far.
Comparing to E-W line, all stations have at least a pair of bus stops or bus interchange situated at their door steps.
HV platform was positioned along the junction, it seems one has to spend 5 min to exit from platform to entrance MayBank. And one probably has to walk another 8 minutes to Bus Stop along Holland Road (out side Holland Village). 13 min? One probably can take the train from Holland to HarbourFront.

Even the taxi stand is closer than the bus stop...
Btw, the bus stop opposite Marymount MRT doesn't have 74/852, only 54/851. The one at Marymount MRT is further up the taxi stand and has all 4 services serving the area.
To me: CC18 Bukit Brown
What's your request?
No HDB blocks
No Road served by buses

they would not purposely shift a bus stop nearer to the MRT station if it's not safe or practical to do so..
I mean loading problem.. if tat road has 12 bus svs plying, outside e MRT Stn going to have massive jam..
how to have your taxi stand? shift it 800m away riao might as well dun build taxi stand.

there's no way Sv 74 can stop e bus stop opposite.
It's peak hour traffic condition issue.

No, the bus stop are ok.
Well, 500m is plain stupid because they are targetting 400m radius a MRT station by 2020 in CBD areas.
(To TS:) But look on brighter side

The shops nearby there can become a shopping street and this walking distance is as good as above-ground / ground level version of City Link Mall on City Hall - Esplanade walkway.
No, I remember the bus stops there, if a relocation were to take place, might just obstruct the traffic infront / sideways.

There can never be a MRT stn within every 400m..
where are u going to get e funding?
also 1 MRT is 138m long... stop every few seconds? might as well walk!

The newer lines are all 3 (CCL / DTL / ERL??) / 4 (TSL / ERL??) carriages which translates 1 MRT is about no more than 70m long.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomson_MRT_Line
If the above statement by you is true, then what about Dhoby Ghaut - Bras Basah and Bugis - Rochor?

also no pt..
wat abt ur station entrance/ exit location?
end up side by side? lol
waste of public funds only..
unless tell SMRT to get their own fianancing do BOT or PAP loves to brand it as PPP.
As for CBD seriously, u see.. Bras Basah gotch much ppl use or not? To me it's for e sake to have a 'MRT' station for SMU

In London, The shortest distance between stations is on the Piccadilly line - Leicester Square to Covent Garden - 0.3km
If the bus stops and mrt stations are not closely integrated, it will not encourage many car owners in switching to public transport.

we dun have to follow others just for e sake of doing so
In any case, it's not possible for out of CBD area to have MRT stn within 300m all due to HDB or clustered pte housing estates.

does not mean have to compromise road safety for e sake of doing so.
e post from here sounds as if there's no need to walk.
As if w/ our limited land, can squeeze 1 bus stop beside e MRT station entrance like tat

Some walk is of course necessary. However try walking from Marymount Station or Holland V Stations to their pair of nearest bus stop, one may easily discourage from making bus/train transfer, and render the stations to be unpopular.

well, for Holland station they've no choice but to locate the station there. Nearby there's clustered private devt.
As for Marymount, I think it's to do w/ alignment issues.

Unless you try to become a next (next 2??) Ministry of Transport minister, if not the plan is sticked and followed there.
You think the 540km rail plan years ago is fake / cancelled? While by 2030 might NOT be feasible, how about by 2040 or even 2050. I bet that is their target.

try funding for all e MRT while continuing spending $$ on defence & education.. If not how come it took 7 yrs to complete e then compass line (Pasir Ris - Boon Lay, CCK - Jurong East, Marina Bay - Yishun)?
Unless you tell me SMRT or whoever openly willing to tie 30 yrs to do BOT or PPP project.
dun come and tell me go ask to dig reserves.
They can plan watever they want, but end up for many corridors it's still best leave it to e cheaper bus network to maintain. U telling me it's worth e $$ to spend on a Tuas LRT just for Weekday peak hrs?
Furthermore, seriously try building MRT everywhere. Ends up you've no space for other things, it might drive up land prices as it becomes more scare.
If U think everything goes to plan, then you're wrong. NEL was not even planned to be built until ppl challenged MBT to take a look at e jam at Upp S'goon.
Also right now aft Pioneer Rd Nth is widened to 3 lane carriageway, now it's only realised the roundabout at AYE junction is a menance.

According to history, NEL was planned along with the compass line but to built at a later date. You are right about ppl challenged MBT to take a look at e jam at Upp S'goon but isnt the minister or whoever just persuade the residents there to accept for a premium fares rate (more expensive) as a price to built NEL and the people just want the NEL and willing to pay slightly higher fares?
I know certain plans such as Tuas LRT and extension towards LCK / Ubin / Tekong (Not shown on 2001 but 1996) are simply plain stupid even on 2050 [The only point I see useful is like on top of Weekday peak hour, is to connect the EWL Tuas Extension and a speculated line on the Southern tip becoming the "West Coast Line" or sort of, if they have the foresight to see] and expect these to be cancelled, but as long as CBDs are concerned, the plan sticks. It is not entire nation within 800m a railway (MRT) station (400m radius) but only within CBD and it is evident that the eastern part of CBD (Promenade, Bugis area) are like reaching there and the Western / Northern CBD such as Kim Seng / Outram / Tanjong Pagar - Orchard / Tanglin respectively are going to be covered by TSL (Not so for Tanglin, maybe the next generation line after ERL?) which hence left the southern CBD area that is obviously, Marina / Downtown area will have so much lines there.
I have nothing against the bus and agreed that MRT stations is getting too much and become kind of a bus-stop (Every 3 ~ 5 bus stop per MRT station!?) and will confuse the commuters but it is definitely better than using the $$ to the minister's astonishing salary (Higher than US president's salary in terms of USD).

Dun forget construction cost will only go up because NEL went fully underground. NSL & EWL could be cheaper because it's mostly elevated and hence faster to complete.
The only thing I can think of it to extend EWL to Tuas CIQ where ppl could link up to 182 to get to Tuas Sth. It's going to be a problem to SBS to be providing long haul rts from Tuas Sth to Boon Lay in e long run as e area develops.
How much MRT can u be building in e congested CBD? You need underground spaces for other uses, not to forget e piling for e skyscrappers today.
