I dunno if this topic has been here before.
Now's that the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station will be shifted to Woodlands.
So lets disscuss what will the development for this station?
Convert it into another MRT station ? The Western Region Line.
The tracks should be usuable for the current KTM tracks, built another train suitable for it

The tracks not same gauge as MRT one.
It seriously being discussed now.
To demolilsh or not to demolish the railway station.
Remember the National Library at Stamford Road has to be demolished for a roadway.
We are not like Stalin, or Mao, or Polpot, only just a little like them.

Hey, we must preserve. Got lots of history.
If the Govt demolish this, demolish Old Changi Hospital.
They preserve OCH, preserve TPRS

Sorry hor, most likely, the MRT will be using standard gauge one. The only exception to the norm is the use of OHLE in NEL apart of number of carriages / train doors and that NEL train is again, 1435mm one (Standard gauge)
Not sure KTM gauge is what, but I think is Narrow.
they going to build MRT station there.

They preserve got condition one, that is NOT to obstruct the urbanization / redevelopment plans.
Well, I think they WILL demolish it, because this part of history is not nice (Especially the Singapore - Malaysia separation & the relocation agreement was agreed since 1990s. Well they SHOULD HAVE already shift long ago, as the Woodlands extension was built. BTW, one of the Malaysia's condition to move the rail station is to have MRT in Kranji.)

The NE2 is supposed to be there (Near there).

the passenger railway station is located on a plot of land which is narrow. if they demolish it, cant be anything. plot of land so narrow, wat can build? budget hotel? coffee shop? even condos need a bigger area than that. other than that narrow plot, the rest (depot, tracks, cargo station) can be demolished as the plot of land is big and wide. ratio sort of 9:10(ESTIMATION, agak agak)

i ever took the NEL train fm HBF to PGL. the distance fm HBF to OTP is considered short. why need? rise operating cost onli for SBST. got soo many hibernating stations at the LRT line
wasn't it mentioned e facade will be kept?

Won't demolish. The site is very expensive.
They can refurbish it and become an museum for Singapore's Transport.
A museum to tell people the transport sector on how it developed
The original London Bridge was moved to Arizona, USA.
So why not move the TPRS to Kranji.
Money and the heart to do it is required.

Try to bypass all the overhead bridges first

They already have Land Transport Gallery at LTA office in Little India.

I doubt so, the history (politics) is not nice and hence it wont be feasible to keep it there. I think they can convert that to office building or a shopping walkway or sort of, possibly integrated with another MRT station.
To dan474:
NEL has only 20km from HBF to PGL with the total journey of 33mins. HBF - OTP cost 4mins. Apart of the NE2 was reserved, one can see that
1: One stretch of the sector is completely straight, for about 140+ m
2: There was mention of the tracks slightly different there by some other user in Skyscrapper
3: It was known that from HBF - OTP is about 2.4km, the longest stretch between any stations in NEL (Maybe Potong Pasir - Serangoon can compete but dont forget that Woodleigh is there but not opened for this issue.) The average distance between stations is about 1.5km (Reported on skyscrapper). BTW, I heard that from YCK - Khatib is the longest stretch between stations in Singapore RTS, but I dont really believe it unless someone has the data on the distance between Expo - Changi Airport as well. (I only know the CGL is 6km long, and expected the TNM - XPO is about 1.5km but the sector between TNM to CHD was already there in the 1990s and hence it might not be counted).
Hope they preserve the building and the tracks inside the station and make a new museum.....
It was said the station would be preserved.
SMRT, NEL are using Standard gauge (1435mm). KTM is using Metre gauge (1000mm).
According to the old plan, a high-speed rail link was to be build between KL and Singapore, but the plan didn't execute.
I think NE2 Kampong Bahru.

KTM is Metre gauge.
