That was due to public pressure and even my parents thinks that TKK is a meaningful name while some people on the internet prefers Watten or Duchess for the sake that the place is a colonized area (Anyway, history says everything, and some suggested why not Dover called "Singapore" station or the dunno who, a founder of dunno what school used to be there or sort of and "Yio Chu Kang" called as Nanyang (Cannot, NYP was not built back then)).
For me, I always remembered that I voted for Botanic Gardens in the CCL4 poll and for DTL2 poll, I chosen "Coronation" (Not one of the given options) due to Cornonation Plaza nearby. [PS: I may have typo here as I lazy to search how to spell it correctly]
History of Mass Rapid Transit
LTA was planned:
EW22 Dover - EW22 Singapore Polytechnic
NE5 Clarke Quay - NE5 Singapore River
CC24 Kent Ridge - CC24 National University Hospital
What i think is.... out of 4 stations planned. Only one station will bear the name of Tuas.
Just like (Jurong East - Pioneer)
(Lakside - Pioneer) these stations are all Jurong West surroundings.
They don't want to mix up Jurong East with Jurong West.
Actually Boon Lay Stn could be called "EW27 Jurong West"
Yeah. just because stn is near doesn't meant that it is named after Boon Lay town.
It is named after the ROAD.
Stations:
Joo Koon
Tuas Road
Tuas Crescent
Tuas West
Tuas Mall
Tuas South
Tuas Bay Drive
Tuas Mall
Wrexham
Poyan
Murai
Sarimbun
Lim Chu Kang
Neo Tiew
Sungei Buloh
Kranji Way
Woodlands Checkpoint
Woodlands
(And continuing to the present NCL)
What is Wrexham, Poyan, Murai, and Sarimbun named for??
That's funny. Wrexham not in Singapore...
u may ve gone too far. :P
I take British names:
Ashford - Tampines Changkat
Woolwich - Sgforums TPS Timothy Mok / my Facebook
Wrexham - Pasir Laba West
as in Poyan, i think is in Poyan Reservoir. Murai, i think is in Murai Reservoir. Sarimbun, i think is in Sarimbun Reservoir.
then Tengeh Reservoir to be renamed 'River Wrexham' or 'River Pasir Laba', or 'River Tengeh'.
Stage 1
Joo Koon -> Tuas Road - Tuas Crescent - Tuas West - Tuas Mall (To complete in 2014)
Stage 2
Tuas Mall -> Wrexham - Poyan (To complete in 2016)
Stage 3
Poyan -> Legoland (To complete in 2017)
Stage 4
Poyan -> Murai - Sarimbun - Lim Chu Kang (To complete in 2019)
Stage 5
Lim Chu Kang - Neo Tiew - Sungei Buloh - Kranji North - Woodlands checkpoint - Woodlands (To complete in 2020)
Fine, since some place does not have a name yet and taking a British name is still acceptable but all these places makes no sense to connect MRT line because these place will have no demand to sustain itself.

Some more:
NE14 Hougang - NE14 Hougang Central
Souce from Singapore Street Directory 1998/1999...
hope this year LTA will announce the Tuas West Extension Finalisation...
Take British names - we are discussing MRT names and yet go back to history.
FOUR new MRT stations will be built on the East-West line, extending the rail system's reach into the Tuas industrial estate.
This new rail project is estimated to cost $3.5 billion and will include the cost of the new stations, a new depot, 13 new trains and a viaduct running parallel to the train line.
When completed in 2016, the new 7.5km extension is expected to cater to 100,000 passengers daily.
The recent extension of Boon Lay to Joo Koon station now serves about 60,000 passengers daily.
From Joo Koon station, the line will extend further westwards to serve commuters heading to Tuas, Tuas Crescent, Tuas West and Tuas Link.
Trains will end their journey at the new 26ha depot, the fourth depot in Singapore. It will fit 60 trains, compared to Bishan's storage of 37 trains.

hmm.. they never say the first station is an interchange. so it is likely to be a normal station but high above ground
Transport Minister mentioned that current Tuas bus services, started from Boon Lay Bus intechange are very time cosumming, then why did'nt they start the bus service at Joo Koon?It should cut down some bus journey.

the first station is built as an elevated stacked interchange to provide services to the future Tuas South Extension. you can see the renders for yourself.

its a good question why they didnt build the proposed Joo Koon bus terminal either. will surely help to reduce the crowd at the relatively smaller Boon Lay interchange.
Seems like LTA has scrapped the plan to build NS6 Sungei Kadut?
Why not they further utilized the Tuas Bus Terminal? I think it is best to use the tuas bus terminal where the MRT Station is going to end right?

High above ground means that the station will collapse, doesn't it?

According to the schematic diagram: http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a371/tranquilice/TuasExtension.jpg
Tuas station (EW30) will be at least 20m above ground. Tuas Crescent station (EW31) will also be at least 20m above gound and on top of the future Pioneer Road viaduct.
