hi i'm new here.
i'm doing some research on MRT noise impact to surrounding buildings.
a1.which is of the greatest impact to the surrounding & why is that so?
1. Elevated platform
2. Underground station
3. LRT
a2.Any measure that SMRT did to prevent this to the surrounding bldg ?
a3. When(what time) is the greatest noise impact to e surrounding?
b. which is the noisiest between:
1.Kawasaki
2. Siemens
3. Alstom
c.any suggestion on how to improve MRT design..beside than track absorber ?
Thank u so much!

a1) I do not see a difference between LRT and overground platforms - both are overground platforms! These two generates the most noise, although the actual amount of noise produced is based on multiple factors including station design, amount of passenger, and frequency of trains, amongst others.
a2) I do not believe they have done anything, nor do they even need to do so. Our trains are already quieter than other countries which uses diesel trains.
a3) Peak hours?
b) I do not know about Alstom trains (C751A and C830) - no accurate measuremnt can be made as these trains are underground. As for the other two (C151, C651, and C751B), I personally find them roughly the same.
c) Barriers between train viaducts and the suroundings may help. Also, the estates could be designed to either have multi-storey carparks, or common corridors facing the viaducts, acting as barriers.
Hope this helps~
C830s are the noisiest IMO followed by C751As, they are underground, so you can't hear how loud they are
Station doesnt really matter unless you stay directly beside, the noise from the announcement will probably be the problem.
a3)Probably when passing by the cross-over track.
b) For SMRT(C151,C651,C751B), it roughly evens out over time with C651 and C151 probably the same. C651 when starting up is the noisiest(higher pitch sound) but once the gear changes, it becomes quiet.
c) Hard unless there probably is a big budget.(You know?!?!?! The G......)
Underground station with above ground cooling towers. If the kovan one can handle it so well, shouldn't be an issue.
1a. Should be thhe underground given the speed of the train that arrived at the station and the noise that cannot be easily dispersed inside the tunnel as compared to the elevated platform and the LRT in open field.
2a. Not sure.
3a. Peak hours
b. Not sure.
c. Not sure. Ask structural engineer who are verse in noise supression.
Turn on all the tunnel booster fans, and smoke exhaust fans at the same time, also make sure all the dampers are open, then you know what is noise.
This is not up to the public to decide. MRT was built and implemented since 1987 and has brought convenience to the public.
You dun like the noise. But.
1. Do u hope to be in a train of no sceneries to enjoy?
2. 20 years now, it is still serving the public.
3. Convenience is priority.
4. It costs to rebuild EWL and NSL. Demolishment and restructuring costs money.
It is not about the trains. Which trains don't make noise? MRT is a major contribution to the society. 23 years now., pls don't complain.

Please read what TS is trying to deliver. He/she's trying to do a reasearch on the noise level, and is not complaining.
A1: Every building structure impacts on the surrounding, construction stage etc. Underground stations exits, even though you see that they are like, pretty much quiet, but the commuters are the ones who made the place "noisy".
A2: Doubt so?
A3: All the time, but more often during peak hour, and at wee hours in the night, where maintanance works are going on.
B: Can't be compared by using the builder's company. Personally, they are all noisy to us, but much more quieter to some foreigners.
C: Stations like Dover and Expo can actually indirectly trap the sound in the station, because of it's suspension and cone-shaped design. Some EWL stations in the East like Pasir Ris also can help, but installing Half-height platform screen doors generally increase the noise that travels outside, rather than the opposite.

C830's motor sounds are covered by the loud tunnel noise.
Redue the noise, my suggestion is to put rubber instead

C) The impact is minimal.

Don't anyhow say. They're fully underground so you have to compare it with other undergrounds. If you do so you'll find that NSL and EWL is noiser.
