That sound's been around since 1995, when the London Underground 1996 Tube Stock was introduced to the Jubilee line. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOnNCbhB-Z4

1996TS is GTO (older), while 1995TS is IGBT (newer).
Tech specs claim that NEL and Circle Line are Onix IGBT, yet C751A sound so 1996TS-ish, maybe someone more technical-savvy can shed some light here.

well...i agree on this. the C751A sounds very much like a GTO. C830 then sounds more like IGBT.
Actually just to share some of my bits here.
You can't really tack a controller system just through how it make sounds. Specifications are very important. I say this as an engineering student grad myself. I can't differentiate a drill from another just by sounds. Perhaps able to if they have differences of 500 RPM.
Personally I am not into European system and is not totally aware of the version difference of the Onix system, but from the traction controlling there is indeed some difference from the C751A and C830.
VVVF Inverter is a traction control system by itself, whether its a GTO or a IGBT semicon regulator actual differences are minimal. Switching speed is the main one, current draw is another. Shall not get too deep here if not I will be writing an essay. PM if interested to know more.
due to the jemp is it true that all the train running on the ewl from 4-5 september started from chd?
I got a question:
What is the ECP in station means (Not the expressway -- East Coast Parkway hor!)
The image was snapped on Paya Lebar CCL, near the exit towards SingPost / nearest to existing EWL exit / the exit that leds to a bus-stop that has bus services terminating at the East (Eunos - 154, Changi Airport - 24, Marine Parade -43, 76, 135, 155, etc) The thing next to it, B1C05, is an ECP of dunno what. Does this tells that the middle track of Paya Lebar was at least planned to extend to somewhere else, even though most likely it would be Marine Parade?
i dunno eh. Maybe he walk on the tracks towards pasir ris stn?
or maybe sleeps in the train. :O

I guess it's Emergency something something.

Future Existing Connection Point (My Guess).
My reasons to support my answer :
Saw something at BSD today at ard 5pm. I think it was a full set of C651 (or a C151) parked near towards the vehicular entrance of the depot. The weird thing is that the end facing the HDB flats (not towards the depot) was slightly derail. It looked crooked from the top and saw 2 techs there. Anyone else saw it? Care to share?
It is a normal pulling of a train
Hmm.. But i saw a bogie that was out of the rail. Wouldnt it damage the wheels if it were to be pulled just like that?
no... not really

Nope the wheels are made of steel. Its the harsh braking at every station that will damage the wheels
Yup! That's why they will have flat wheels eventually.
Ahh... the "thud".. "thud" sound..
Originally posted by birdhuda:Ahh... the "thud".. "thud" sound..
Nah, thats normal. Its the accelerating and decelerating sound

It may damage the tracks...

Won't... Our tracks use UIC 60 and UIC 90, heavy mining tracks =P.
Telok Ayer MRT stn along the DTL1 hv Side or Island platforms?
Would someone confirm this for me.
If you stand at the end of the woodlands platform, side closer to Admiralty, do you realise that there is room for another track to be built/accomodated on the woodlands station?
ACx

Side. Photo credits go to mrtfreak of SkyscraperCity.

Chim lol.
What speed can the tracks take up to?
