I'm totally confused by the remarks make by the minister's on the subject...Quote " You look at SMRT, it is an entity that makes profit. it is a listed company which makes profits for its shareholders. Is it fair for the public through the government, to pay for that security either in manpower terms or in terms of the costs?? if indeed this is treated as a "private" matter rather than Public matter, than why is he being charged by AG for vandalizing a public property?? This so called "protected area" is under SMRT's compound which is a private enterprise and shouldn't this be a civil suit where he should be charged under trespassing , destroy of "Private" property instead??? I'm confuse with this saga on how the Government is handling it.. any one to offer the glimpse into how this actually should be handle...
You have some misconception of the law.
Firstly, trespassing of a private property and damaging private property is not a civil case.
Secondly, one can be charged for vandalizing public or private property.
