MRT train doors can in fact open while a train is on the move - but only by a little.
Confirming this yesterday, train operator SMRT said a feature built into all trains allows a door to open up to 5cm when a force is used against it, creating a maximum gap of 10cm if both doors are prised open.
Called a push-back device, it allows passengers to manually open the doors if they need to free objects caught in them, such as the straps of bags or clothing.
SMRT said the push-back mechanism would explain what happened when a passenger complained that a door had opened mid-journey on the first day of the newly opened Circle Line.
Wanting to be known only as Miss E. Goh, the 19-year-old teaching assistant said she was travelling from Paya Lebar to Bishan on Saturday afternoon when the door suddenly opened. She estimated it had opened by 30cm.
But SMRT said that after identifying and testing the train in which Miss Goh had ridden, based on her ez-link card information, it had found nothing wrong with the door mechanism.

Got 30 cm so wide? What if a TO / CSO accidentally pressed a door open button when the train is on the move?

You trust a lady's estimation with distances? I don't even trust mine, and I am an engineer.
Anyway, when SMRT says never to lean on the train doors, I always take it very seriously.
yes.. it can still be open within range 0cm to 30cm and train still moving.. more than 30cm, train can't move.. i've tried before and once more DO NOT TRY IT YOURSELF!

Now with the train so crowded, u don't wanna go near the door also no choice.
Well, actually, I liked leaning on the train door. ( when there are no seats available.)

I dunno why EWL and NSL trains don have this annoincement.

Maybe they are not under SBST.

wanna know why??
EWL/NSL is a pneumatics type of doors so door are tighten by air.. so no problem
NEL/CCL is a gear type so when the gear came loose and u lean against the door, it can open without any warning =)

Only C651 is tighten by air (air lock). C151 and C751B are locked by Electromagnetic locks.
