Back to the topic... any more stns spotted with the new faregates?
Personally I have not seen any of these new faregates yet.
so far only Somerset.
But really, who footed e bill. LTA or SMRT? Strange for SMRT to replace fare gates as MRT here isn't BOT.
actually, this was in the news just a few days back... they say it is a trial and all stations will be progressively fitted with it,
main feature is that it can differentiate if a person is tailgating you, or if a person is carrying/ pushing a pram
Thanks for unlocking this thread, jcqh!
Two paragraphs on Titan Fare Gates quoted from SMRT's 04 April 2010 press release Pages 10 and 13 respectively:
For added passenger safety and security, SMRT developed the Titan Gate, a state-of-theart rail product that features neural-logic intelligence, which enable the built-in sensors to differentiate between human and inanimate objects. This results in highly accurate detection, increasing throughput of passengers and passenger safety by minimising cases of passengers being hit by gate barriers while maintaining high security such as the detection of tailgating. The well-thought through design also takes into consideration maintenance and environmental factors that are aligned with SMRT’s commitment to protecting the environment and ensuring high system availability. Titan faregate is now on trial at Somerset MRT Station.
Developed by SMRT, the Titan fare gate system is expected to save up to 10% in energy consumption due to in-built eco-friendly features such as low energy LEDs, energy-saving LCD displays and low energy servo-motors.
