Spotted 1 set (1 pair of machines) of the new model of SMRT fare gate in use at Somerset Station. When I used it, some non-uniformed people had their laptop and devices connected to the fare gate and were doing some test monitoring. Features:

Sorry guys, no photos as I was using my non-camera phone. =(
Few weeks ago, I also spotted this, the design is also pretty cool, but I don't think it's a good idea to take a picture of the faregates, since the station control is at the right/left side (depending on which way you're looking)
But if you're riding on the North South Line, you can alight at Somerset and come up and take a look, before going back down and continue your journey.

Note: I didn't ask anyone to take any picture, I only warned them to NOT take a picture.

Photography without prior permission was also banned in all MRT stations since the Madrid bombings.

Wait... Remember the incident about the CID thing on the train happenings thread? The officer said "it's ok to take footage of trains, but don't upload them to the net".

well, you can take photo in the unpaid areas. if paid areas you may or may not get caught by staff.

Unpaid areas of station = station = SMRT Premises = still get caught

- No more green arrow or red cross LED sign on the front of the machine if I remembered correctly. Just a red or green illuminated bar of light below the card reader at around waist height. Solves the frequent problem of many passengers who try scanning their card on a no-entry fare gate.
- No more pinholes on the machine for the sensors as well. Black plastic are used to cover the sensors.
- Makes low buzzing sounds for card-scan success or error.
What does the point 1 means??
Does that mean people cannot cheat their way to tap in fugatively and dont pay MRT fares?

If I remembered correctly, the new machine doesn't have the sign that displays the green arrow or red cross on both ends of the machine. To indicate the fare gate's direction (entry or exit), it uses a horizontal bar that has an always-lit green or red light on both ends of the machine.
The horizontal bar of light is closer to the height of the card reader and is visible even if the user is standing right next to it. For the current models, you can't see the circle LED sign if you're standing right next to the machine coz its at the front side; causing the frequent problem of users attempting to scan their card on a red-cross fare gate and wondering why it doesn't respond. Haha..
