Hi all! I would like to hear on your opinions to make the train system more effective.
It can cover any aspect...(from morning peaks problem to staff services?)
Please feel free to give all your ideas.
I'll start the ball rolling.
Need Fans built at platform areas...with the PSDs coming out station will get very hot(not that it isn't currently).
Fans = increase operation cost = increase fares...
Overall i dun think it will be that hot even after the monsoon period...
Allow commuters to remain on train at terminus station for working trips MRT. This will "waste time" since the train is intended to terminate for a while but it gurantee seats for needy person. Not everybody willing to scarifice a few minutes for a seat.
PS: Go Bartley and you know what I meant.

I personally find the stations hot like suana wo.
maybe more entertainment on the train? short tv programmes.. dramas preview.. music charts.. then it will be less boring for long rides..
the list for AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT for s'pore's public transport can encircle the earth a few times. buses alone will account for the bulk of complaints/suggested improvements (aren't they the same thing, huh).
i think our train network is quite good, frequency during peak hours are not so bad too (with 1 train every 2min, correct me if i'm wrong as i usually avoid the peak hour). just too bad the capacity of each train is too little. also, you know how many train stations have multiple entrances? not all the entrances have a lift. at certain stations, a person who wants/needs the lift will have to walk a long distance to get to one, or have trouble finding one cos there's no indication of which entrances have a lift.

request for it lo.. this can help music companies to promote their albums too.. one stone hit two bird~~
Hmm let's see...
- Remove the "Normal Mode" operation when train is operating in Auto mode
Pros: Improve/shorten commuting time from A to B
Cons: Nil
Constraint: Nil
- Removal of Yishun & Yew Tee shutter service during peak hour
Pros: Improve frequency of train between Woodlands and Jurong East on NSL
Cons: Passengers from Yishun onwards may not be able to secure a seat during their journey
Constraint: Nil
- Legthen the train from 6-car to 8-car
Pros: Each train will be able to transport more passengers
Cons: Increased Operation Cost
Constraint: Design of existing stations does not allow future expansion with low cost. Though it can be done with low cost, it requires track to curve within station. But this idea will definitely be mooted.
- Implement Rapid Service
Pros: Enable train to skip certain station due to low demand and thus, benefit passengers who are travelling for a long distance on train
Cons: Need to upgrade existing station used for overtaking
Constraint: Infrastructure limitation due to island platform design
-Upgrade signalling system, remove automatic operation, converting to full-manual
Pros: Full-manual system can "crush train" during peak hour better when compared to auto system.
Cons: Increased operation cost due to increased manpower
Constraint: Nil
This are just few of the many which I can think of. =)

Lengthing of train by 2 cabin is impossible.
Most of the stations have tracks that curve inward or slopes.
Only Boon Lay, buona vista and a few more stations can be expanded.

anymore? =)
list as many as possible ty
the thing about this issue is the best ways for improvement have already been stated long ago by people like us (commuters), and the fact that these suggestions (now just futile reverberating complaints) still exist even after months since they were first brought up, is just plain irritating
I hav a suggestion.
Implement Limited Express trains with special First Class seating, tickets to be bought on trains at the door in addition to the basic fare and stop at only a few stations along the EWL. This can be progressively made available to the NSL. These special trains would use crossover tracks when it is possible to do so to reduce travelling time and have a top speed of 100kmph. Then it would go through the Middle Platform of Tanah Merah for instance, not stopping there while the normal trains use the usual platform, thus making it faster than the train in front. This is further be enhanced with additional parallel tracks dedicated for this service, but it is not 100% neccessary for it to have it.
A high speed train will be passing by this station shortly. Please stand behind the yellow line.
(ERL, Express-Rail Link, KL Sentral - KLIA)
Now got PSD not too bad liao

So what? You've never seen curved platforms or stations on slopes before? I suggest you take a short trip to KL.

It is possible.
The pic below, shows a Jap train station, the ends curved...

Can consult us what train you want to take to KL. :P
Anyway it is possible to have curved platforms. It's gonna be a new design challenge for the architects. :D

Not really, they can do something similar with what they did with Paya Lebar, with the edges reaching the tracks. They've done a new station from scratch before on a running line (Dover), platform extension would be an easier job for them as compared to that.

All of them seem feasible. But the shuttles should only be removed after JEMP is done. Oh, and instead of the rapid service, let's have an Airport Express stopping at Marina Bay, Raffles Place, City Hall, Bugis, Paya Lebar and Changi Airport only.

Anyway,
Should ask this people (in the forum) go help rebuild the KTM Komuter services better la... They seem to have lots of ideas.. Creative ones.. Im sure Komuter want to hire this kind of people, if it brings profit to them..
Hahahaha...
