OMG as I took the Taipei MRT system
1) off peak freq = 3 - 4 mins (SMRT 7 mins, MTR 4 mins)
2) single trip ticket uses token chip (slot into a empty slot below the card tapping sensor as u exit the station, instead of the usual tapping of the store value card).
Over here need to go queue at GTM again to return $1
3) The sides has LED boards to indicate destination station
4) Front and rear indicates destination instead of the running no here
5) Courtesy messages asking passengers to move in (in Chinese, Hokkien, Hakka & English) aired at major stations/ interchanges
6) Passenger information system even indicates exactly how long would the train be arriving - countdown timer
As I took the Taipei MRT, really ashamed, over here SMRT or whoever thought of the ez-link system makes Singapore a laughing stock. We're moving back to a 3rd world nation - more goods years to come
Here underground sataions got PSD how see?

Honestly the only thing tat owns Singapore at Taipei is the MRT
Public bus system there is terrible, can have 4 - 5 same sv buses arriving together empty (over there 10m manual buses, 52 capacity)

Aiyo you quoted my embarassing post. :P
They order more Siemens trains than Kawasaki and URC ones.
C301 - URC
C321 - Siemens
C341 - Siemens
C371 - Kawasaki

nvm la
it shows how backward we're in reaity
The Singaporean tourist I saw really.
Over there is keep right and not keep left!
its okay, we're pretty much fine with the way our MRT works, so far i've seen little complaints on the frequency and quality service of the MRT trains.
we need someone to sacrifise b4 we see a change.
for eg,
once a man died at jelapang lrt station. he was smashed by the oncoming train when he fell onto the tracks. only when he died then feeder bus service was allowed to start.
i dunno how and who shld die and how will it improve the system after that. lolz...
In term of service, Taipei MRT is better than Singapore, offering high frequency of train service and better in-train visual information system. However, the transfer between lines in Taipei MRT is very troublesome and I had to walk a pretty far distance, in order to change between lines.I still prefer Singapore MRT than Taipei MRT.

one ting unique about our train
is that get to see different kinds of alien
from differnt planet while we are inside the train
more to come.. ya
From Ximending to Taipei 101/ Taipei City Hall cost NT25 for single trip ticket
Tat Taipei City Hall MRT station above is now building a commercial bldg housing offices, shopping centre and aircon bus interchange (design for bus interchange totally similiar to Singapore one)

Hence, in NT1 = $0.05, it cost only $1.25, quite similar to our fares, wait, how long distance / travel time is from Ximending (西门町) to Taipei City Hall?

Wow, then it is cheaper liao, if the 12 mins excludes waiting time because if a train average it's speed is 60km/h, it means the distance is about 12km. For the same distance, SMRT charges $1.40 (Buona Vista to City Hall)

should be abt 6 - 7km range cos there's stations in between

Erm, that is because most SGs are into Better, Cheaper and Faster. Everyone so tired liao. (Maybe with the excpetion of couples, where once they seen each other, all energy has refueled to 100% or more, that is why they can stand long long and ........... with no hassle).
By the way, are you a Taiwanese by saw your pic as a Taiwan's flag.

Hi all. I also went to Taipei for a holiday a week ago and same as sbst272, took their train and here's the first video of the Taipei Metro:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4-8CtIBcjE
Sry for the poorer quality as my HD video is very large and it'll be impossible to upload. Also the video is still processing.

That's why I was wondering how SMRT got the whatever award (infact the only award they can get is "the most cheapskate train company in the world with a management run by childrens as they seems to have a attitute of do something awhile than forget about it" award). I am not expecting them to have frequency for non-peak hours to be like Taiwan at around 3 - 4 minutes but at least most 5 minutes, yet they always fail to deliver, once I waited for 10 minutes for a train, frequency really got worse. How they manage peak hours is really very wrong. Now I am wondering how long will they maintain STARIS, the VPIS on the C751B was a complete failure...
I seriously think that LTA really need to reconsider how public transport should be run in SG, instead of profit based why not make it non-profit based, this however doesn't means that they can do ridiculous stuff and when see red, take $ from taxpayers but rather maintain a public transport that is balanced (not too much profit yet no loss).
Well this are probably things we will never see but I was wondering if they could at least make the effort to really fix the frequency, do something about the peak hours (yes, we know you have train shortages but terminating the train at Yishun doesn't help the situation), understand that there is something call unofficial peak hours (around 6.30am, when students and some workers take their train to work, probably around 3 - 4 mins frequency will be good) and have a timetable that are closely tied to every other line on the network. Example if Train A (NS Line) arrives at Bishan Interchange, have a Train B (Circle Line) arrives 8 - 10 minutes later so that people will be able to catch the train after they arrive at the interchange without waiting for 6+ minutes for the next train cause they just miss one.
