Arrival Of Downtown Line Train Mock-Up:
Downtown Line train will be more environmentally-friendly (22/10/2009)
SINGAPORE: The new Downtown Line train will be environmentally friendly.
The Land Transport Authority said the use of new technology in the train's power generation and drive systems will help reduce its overall energy consumption.
It added that it would help translate to an energy saving of some 8,000 kilowatt hours per year.
The train will also have some new features. Some of the ergonomic seats are colour-coded red for commuters with special needs.
The seats at the side have been converted to perch seats, allowing a wider space for movement around the doorway.
And like the current batch of trains on the main lines, there will be a route map display. Its mock-up can be viewed at the Land Transport Authority's Hampshire Road office.
Stage one of the Downtown Line is scheduled for completion in 2013.
The Downtown Line is the longest fully underground rail project to date, at 40 kilometres with 33 stations.
It will run through high-traffic and built-up corridors, allowing direct travel from the northwestern and eastern areas of Singapore to the Central Business District.

除了座椅的设计更照顾到人体弧度ã€�让乘客å��得更安稳舒适外，外观时髦的模型列车也以é� 椅（perch seat)å�–代一些普通座椅，以腾出更大的站立空间。
æ¤å¤–，新列车采用å�¯èŠ‚çœ�能æº�çš„å�‘电技术，æ¯�个列车比环线列车轻1.4å…¬å�¨ï¼Œæ¯�å¹´å�¯èŠ‚çœ�约8000å�ƒç“¦å°�时的电力，相ç‰äºŽæ¯�年节çœ�6万元。

Erm, make sense as I have been wondering what will happen to these STARIS after each extension? So how many extension do they intend to have? Is there any extension possible after EW33 / TE2 (Tuas Extension 2) and Marina South Extension? [Background info: Govt announced to built additional 6 stations after Joo Koon despite no details made public as of yet. 4 of them will be built first and the remaining 2 was widely speculated to be extension of EW30, known as next station after Joo Koon due to its designed could be a combination of usual stations at the extreme side and a Dover style in the middle side of the station -- 4 tracks total and it is DIFFERENT from Jurong East after it has modified and City Hall / Raffles Place. There is none in the history of Singapore MRT has such design, we shall see.]
