I emailed SMRT
Dear Mr/Ms/Mdm/Mrs,
I fully understand of the step up in
imposing fines for people who eat and drinks in trains and stations. I
feel that it is the right way to deter commuters from eating and
drinking in trains and stations, and without this people may never
learn and just take the notices for granted.
However, I would
like to comment about and ask for clarification on what type of
comsumables should be allowed and what should not be allowed. I
understand that plain drinking water is not allowed but why is it not?
I commute on the trains everyday spending up to an hour between trips
in the trains and stations and some of the time, I am bound to feel
thristy and have a sip of water. And it's not only me, other commuters
as well. As Singapore's weather is particularly hot and humid, wouldn't
it be alright to let people have a sip of water?
Also, if
people are feeling unwell and have to commute to get to their doctor or
simply go home, can't they even have a sip of water? Or suck on
lozenges if they have a sore throat. Yes, there is a risk of littering
in trains and stations but isn't the situation of littering under
control now and still has been the same even before the step up was
imposed? And what are the cleaners at the stations for? Singaporeans
are more responsible now compared to 10 years ago and majority of us
have the basic know-how of throwing something into a rubbish bin.
Coming back to the point of feeling unwell, there is bound to be a time
when an unwell person needs a sip of water. If even a small sip is not
allowed, isn't that trying to make the person even more sick, and what
if a person in the train is dehydrated?
I agree that these are
many what ifs, but one-third or 1.6 million people use the train and
even more pass by the stations everyday, that's more than 1.6 million
chances of the things mentioned above waiting to happen.
I
honestly feel that this step up in fining offenders is understandable,
but it is a little extreme in cases of not being able to drink even
plain water.
I sincerely hope that SMRT would look into this
matter and clarify not only with me but also the public on what
comsumables fall into the catergory of no eating and drinking.
Also, I would appreciate if you would reply to this email with some
explanation and not the standard corporate email templete. Thank You!
Yours Sincerely.
HOPEFULLY,
they won't reply in a standard template, and direct it to the relevant department.
Plain water from water bottle should be ok rite?? But i hate those who carry other than plain water...

No it isn't. My friend was drinking plain water and he got warned.
1st, why not we ask SMRT to remove all the F&B outlets in transit area? Since we cant eat or drink. Human tends to buy a bottle of drinks or mints on the way.
At Expo station last Satuday, I saw this duty manager named Jason Soh, run to catch people. I wonder does he get commission by hitting his monthly "Fine Target". There was aa group of people eating KFC burger while in the station, he didnt catch them. Instead, he catch another guy who already step out of the station walking along the coverwalk way drinking.
I went over to question him, and got told off by him. He said, :Many people out break the rules but the police only catch the minority."
Next, I saw his staff smoking beside the POSB ATM and throw the cigar butts on the floor. Are we going to fine them as well?
Even a kid drinking milk also got fine.
SMRT, do you need the fine to convert all terminals to CEPAS 2?
what a bad idea to do.. even staff also lidat.. irresponsible
We should post it to CNA Forum.
Why should we get fine for all these??
Even foreigners who dont know the "NEW" rules also get fine...
saw the paper today, SMRT just impose fine to scare the people only!!
Update : As of today SMRT hasn't replied my email.
wont reply one.. lol
who dare to reply???
write to SPH lor..
tell them that SMRT dont reply emails one~
If SMRT's has these rules in place for cleanliness' sake, should they fine people who spill their takeaways too? Or people who throw up on the train? How now?
Impose a ban on people who are carrying their groceries from wet markets to home.
So, apart from these.... you can vomit, spill, litter, spit and whatever that does not comes under the signs...
Impose a fine on people who have wet shoes.
Force them to go barefoot on rainy days.
does a company need to apply for license to impose rule that employ fine to carry it out?
like pay $100 or any amount for wheel cramp offense....
pay $1000 for littering in private area.....
on top of that, they need to pay GST and issue receipt rite? What if u refuse to pay the fine and walk off.... do they have the right to forcefully detain you?
but wat about those staff in the control room?
they also drink and eat snacks..
?
chiu waste chiur time writing to them.
