yea you're right:) Anyway if being a TO, will we still have time to accompany gf/wife/family? Those TO that drive the train for long years, are they still single? Just asking

Are there any TO on this forum in the 1st place?

Excuse me, correct me if i am wrong - T O available in NE line MRT only. NE MRT dun need human operation, it is automatic

listed below in red is what you seek(taken off MRT career classifieds)...along with other things to it...but no longer called TO as in train operator in times to come.
As a Customer Service Offi cer for the upcoming Circle Line stations, you will provide excellent customer service to our passengers to make their journey with SMRT a delightful one. You will assist in the operation and control of an MRT station, which includes monitoring of station equipment, responding to station emergencies and other station related duties. You will assume the responsibilities of the Station Manager during his/her absence.
Requirements:
You must have a minimum NITEC in Engineering, preferably from Electronics, Electrical or Mechanical discipline. You will be tasked to drive our trains in preparation for emergencies. Successful candidates will undergo a structured training program to be equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to perform these duties. You must be prepared to perform rotating shift duties.
Annilator47,
Circle line all is fully automatic train, no driver inside, so CSO is not TO right? CSO is for CCL only or? I want to handle the train well:)
how come no one reply me?
@linwei20
i repeat until my mouth dry liao-
anyway you also answered part of your question..TO will most likey be converted to CSO should the main line be converted to driveless.since CCL onwards is driveless.
another reason to what i heard from some pple i know is when you undergo CSO course, part of the course is learning to handle the trains. what i do know is that unlike the TO which is a single task job..will be made replaced by CSO which is a multi-task job..so in short good news is that you might still operate the train, but that is a rare chance should the computer operating it breaks down.CCL CSO at the ends of the trains are actually standby "TOs" by your language.and also they have to man the station control etc etc..
for CCL the actual operator of the trains are the computer operators but most of the time, they are cooped to a fixed room..i think in a depot area if i am correct , so that is not really quite what you want too..staring at the computer screen all the time. thats why the only close position avail to your "TO" dream is CSO now if you like to travel here and there sometimes.
the job sounds good to me. U get to learn how to operate a train not many people have that skill outside.

But you must have the interest of operating the train:) Not every people like to seat there and control, but i like this job very much. But the problem is, how do we apply?

Okay the first part i understand. TO will be converted to CSO in the future?
As for the second part, i know that CCL is different from NEL and EWL, but can't we apply for the NEL/EWL TO job? Can choose to apply for which line or they post want?
i am afraid not..
firstly- it depends on your interviewer..mostly nowadays they are taking for CCL onwards..besides..theres no post for TO( as in train operator) in the SMRT website if you noticed it.
secondly-NEL,EWL lines if they should be automated..their existing TOs most likely might be converted to CSO..so it saves them some manpower on that part..if also means that they might have the manpower they need for NEL/EWL..so almost no chance of recruitment there..only can get posted there..but also small chance too.
so either way you look at it..other than TO as in Technical officer( where it is all maint job)..your choice to go in to SMRT just to operate trains might seem highly limited..the CSO is the only closest post to that job, and CCL or DTL CSO will be the only available opening for you..be it if you like it or not...your choice here is still stuck to this 2 lines for now.

Which means that, in the future NEL and EWL are going to be automatic train? No long have TO/CSO operating?
In that case, how am i going to apply for the job if there's no TO post? CSO is the only choice? But CSO job is service the customer right? No other choice?

seriously i dunno how many time i have to explain to get it to your head-
might as well put it this way:-
PRESENT CSO JOBSCOPE (NEL,NSW):-
1)man station control
2)security duties in the platform area
3)man ticketing station
Present CCL CSO and future CSO should (NEL,NSW be automated) jobscope:-
1)man station control and ticketing station(ticketing station now intigrated into station control i think)
2)security duties on the platform area
3)standy to operate train in event of computer breakdown..means you have to sit in the train head and travel like normal customer (but mostly stay in the train) and maybe do other things other than that.
PLEASE NOTE: -you only opeate train in event of breakdown.
i hope this really simplify it for you...if you still cannot get the message ..i seriously dunno what will.
yeah,
you just are on standby incase system breaksdown, then will you get to operate the train. if not, you're just like the NEL CSO's onboard..

Haha sorry, maybe i don't seems to understand your previous reply ba. But now i get to understand..
But are you very sure or confirm that, in the future, maybe 5-10years down the road, NSL/EWL are going to be automatic?
By the way, how do you get all those information? You are also working in SMRT company?
So what if i want to apply for CSO position? How do i go apply? To the headquarter or email?

goto SMRT website..then look for classifieds..there should be a post there..just note and keep a lookout for later dates and venues for recruitment.
btw i am just stating the obvious..and my source indicated that when the present NSL/EWL trains run out options or when spare parts become too expensive and when upgrading cost is about the same as getting a new train, the likely outcome would be better to get a new train..and most if not all the newer trains are automated..it is a trend linwei20, it started with SBS with the NE line..then now the next is SMRT with CCL and next future DTL line also likely the same.
when will they overhaul the trains andchange it to automated i don't know..after all it is no easy task, some systems in the present lines have to be upgraded, and these will take time, morever doing these upgrades without affecting normal operations is by all means not a simple or easy task.

Okay i understand already.. Thanks for the information:)
By the way, the gross salary for CSO, how do SMRT pay? Being a CSO, life is it will be very boring? Just walking around the train/seating in the platform counter/security duties on the platform area?
