As we all know, the MRT is crowded during peak hours. I have an idea of adding more carriages to MRTs so it can takes in more people and thus solve the problem. Passengers can go to the extra carrige through the connection between each carriage, thus MRTs can still stop in the station in the same way. The carriages are only added during peak hours. Do you think this idea is feasible?
if this happens, the train will stop at the station for longer period of time for ppl to move in
and knowing singaporeans, extra carriages macham got ghosts.... they would not move in becos later is more difficult to move out
eventually it does not alleviate the situation
or worse, aggravate it
it's about the mind of the people.
this can be done, but can the commuters do it?
it's easy to suggest new solutions, but if you were to think again, it comes from the commuters itself(yes, me and you).
we can add 1000-10000 carriages, but if the commuters refuses to move inside...
if the station is extended then can.
But if the station still 6 carriage length but the train 10 carriage length then no use lah xD
install ERP at MRT during peak hours...
our CEPAS card la. LoL..
unless u wanna a fare hike lor..
what about increase frequency.

SMRT is Green. More trains = more pollution.

INcrease frequency does not mean buy more trains. I doubt they completely support Green. Between GReen and money making, money making comes first
increase frequency.
hmm.. no need buy more trains. just keep the running time short. hehehe.

that is precisely what I suggested/
Haha, just joking at my previous post.
Anyway, SMRT could just extend the platforms at all stations. A curve at the end is alright. After all, most underground station boxes are longer than the train itself. Narrow platforms at the end shouldn't pose much trouble. With this, 2 new cars per train should be sufficient.
Of course, frequency too. Time to upgrade the systems. Let's have a 1-minute frequency just like Hong Kong.
Extending the train without extending the platforms is a no-no. It will be extremely difficult to squeeze through 25 meters just to get to the nearest door.

Wait a minute, now I recall I read some where that they have been asked to increase frequency but their reply was not possible.
i doubt they could increase the frequency.
maybe 2011-2012, where the new Contract 151A trains comes in?

The maximum is I think 2 minutes. But with the growing population, 2 minutes plus a train that's only 6 cars long is already very slow. Nowadays, 4 minutes also have. Compare with other developed countries' metros.

The maximum is 2 mins or minimum is 2 mins?
Don't think they dare to jack up to $5.

if they do, they suffer losses instead.
Extend the 2 more carriages.
Good news maybe coming. Peak hours maybe extend for another 1.5hrs. In the morning and evening. But on the other hand, its bad news for maintenance work.

then there will be people riding bicycle to work if they increase to $5
lol i was kidding about $5. However a fare rise may see a reduction of passengers.
i doubt they want to see reduction in number of people taking trains. the govt is pushing so hard to encourage public to take public transport.
