Clementi MRT Incident

AN elderly woman was killed after she was hit by a train at the Clementi MRT station on Tuesday morning, disrupting westbound train service between Queenstown and Jurong East stations for about 50 minutes
The woman, believed to be a 71-year-old Chinese, was hit by an oncoming train at 6.15 am, said SMRT in a statement.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force said it received a call about the incident at 6.18am. SCDF officers found the body lying under the third carriage of the train and had to manually extricate it.The woman was pronounced dead by paramedics at about 6.57am.
To maintain service on the unaffected stretch of the East-West line, westbound trains were turned around at Queenstown MRT Station. Train service between Jurong East and Joo Koon stations were not affected by the incident.
SMRT said it activated a bus bridging service from Queenstown to Jurong East stations to ferry affected commuters.
The first bus arrived at Queenstown MRT Station at about 6.50am. About 6,250 passengers were affected during the incident.
Westbound train service resumed at 7.03am.
Passengers were informed of the service disruption and the free bus services through announcements, notices and the rail travel information system at affected stations.
Passengers who were unable to complete their journeys due to the disruption can claim a full fare refund from any of the 53 SMRT stations within the next three working days.
SMRT is assisting Police in its investigations.

Yet another death on our trains becos there is no barrier build to prevent our old folks from going too near the tracks. Do we really need to wait till 2012 for a fully safe ride?

I was taking mrt this morning at abt 6.50. When I was alighted at tanah merah to wait for an empty train to come out from the depot, the announcement "There will be a delay in trains heading joo koon for about 25mins. We apologise for the inconvenience caused" was played, and in 4 languages

SMRT should really hurry to build PSDs if they dont want to waste $ on refunds...

they can raise travelling fares also to cover cost
