got any displeasements of the smrt svcs and condtion, do post it here!
like PSD, failed to close properly, train also cannot move! and train information display time got fault also very bull shit
none..
in fact, i noticed a slight change today when SMRT increased the frequency for weekends..
boarding at city hall has improved somewhat..
well waiting time quite sastified
but the air conditiong, PSD also delayed the train system
for PSD, its only a matter of time..
so juz wait patiently for them to be installed all rite..
So far so good for me... Just pray no crazy people, for nothing, fall into the tracks can liao...
also the VPIS, ther are some which put a label saying " out of service" and shows nthg.
and 63/64, 209/210 and 15/16 are freaking hot

Trains are not allowed to move if the PSDs are not properly shut, for safety reasons.

Saw Phaik Hwa, president & CEO, SMRT, said: "The importance of the train is to ensure you can pack as many people as possible. People want to travel. One of the complaints’ is not because there are no seats, but it's too packed."
I can see that her goal is to remove all the seats and stuff all the passengers into the trains...
More train and more seats please!!
Hey this is a passanger train not a cargo train!
Expect to stuff more paxs into one cabin just like the sardins being canned into the one can.

I think the trains services i've been taking these days are fine. the only place where i do see huge crowd waiting is at City Hall northbound platform to jurong east. i think that cant be helped. because of the nature of the train route and the area it serves.
NEL services are also fine, hope i wont be unlucky like few years back to be in the platform right at the time where service disrupted for 30min or more..
the fact that its an oven in Serangoon stn by 10:30pm (not sure about other stns though... its a really pathetic excuse of saving costs when fares are going up and the stupid woodleigh stn always has lights on all the time. and its not like train services end at 10:30pm... its over an hour later!!!
even during the day time SER stn is quite warm compared to busier stations like CTH and DBG... hey if they regulate air con based on passenger demand then marina bay should be as hot as hell right?
did smrt see all this coming before? they could have probably added more cabins and build a longer station.

im always wondering if SMRT runs all the lines whether it would be better or worse.
I dont find Serangoon station warm and dont find the temperature there a problem. but then again i dont go there at 10:30pm so i didnt know that they save aircon in this stupid manner.
You guys, or rather, we guys are lucky people...
Lets take Japan as an example again. The video aside, we look at figures.
JR East Yamanote Line...
ピーク時混雑率
- 外回り:205%(上野→御徒町)
- 内回り:178%(新大久ä¿→新宿)
stands at maximum 205 percent 'squeeze factor' for outer round and 178 percent at inner round maximum.
So what does this 混雑率 (squeeze/crush factor) mean?

So it means that by seating, we allow a passenger 430mm of space, and a standing passenger 0.3 square meters of space. But how would it feel like, being in such a condition?

At 100 percent, seating is full and standing is just comfortable. At 150 percent, shoulders would rub against each other, and you still can read newspaper. 180 percent, you can read newspaper just nice, and body would have contact. 200 percent, you can feel the pressure on the body, and you cannot read magazines at all. 250 percent, you cannot move, and body might float upwards (pushed upwards). Doors might be forced open at this pressure.
At 200 percent, its already bad enough, and 300 percent is almost unthinkable.
I think we are barely at 180 percent, even on the worst cram ever occured excluding the Cram Jam competition. Counting that our trains are wider than Japanese ones, they would be able to pack 220 percent into our trains without much problem. 250 maybe, for external help included.
Okay, sure you want to know how other lines fare. Here is the link to them all.
http://www.mintetsu.or.jp/rail/strengthen/
By strengthening the infrastructure, increasing carrying capacity per train, laying double tracks (improving existing network) is what can be done to cope with the increasing load. Over the years this is what Japanese engineers and transport planners did to reduce the squeeze factor, from 262 percent in 1960s to an average of 156 percent now.
So we should be thankful no one tells us to squeeze 250 percent and help overload the trains. Of course squeeze and overload is not too reasonable, but by moving in and ensuring you have space around yourself just to read a magazine is what we can do on our part. The rest is not much to control.
u said so much, what u just want to say is simply the final sentence i suppose. but japan has a comprehensive rail network but singapore doesnt and cannot compare to them as well. probably u are right that u can say we are luckier than them, but then again, having to squeeze, however high or low the percentage is, is still uncomfortable, and nobody can ever deny that.
By refusing to compare directly is correct. By refusing to see the data from other countries is not correct in the way that we will not learn from the success and failures of others! Not directed at anyone but we should really look at how others do and modify their ideas to be used in our own country, for we do not own the most advanced in technology.
It is uncomfortable, but we are already there for a developing country. People should not ask for too much, or else be denied of even that little left.
Do you think we are asking for too much? Each to their own, I believe that on the operations level, we cross the lines almost everyday, sometimes its insufficient, sometimes its too much and becomes wasted.
What the SMRT CEO said, I would intepret it as utilization. We now need only to prove that people do utilize the trains well in order to ask for any further improvement in service. Show an empty train and that train will be taken away, quite a simple fact indeed.
still sometimes e next train arrival never appear one
I suspect MRT freq in general has not improved, night still 6 - 7 mins

IMO, theres no necessity to say so much concept or explanation. i have already say all that i wanted to say in my prev post, if somehow or rather u still have disagreement then i dont know whats the problem here.
everyone hopes for a comfortable train ride, it is as simple as that. theres no need to give 'lectures' or well-meaning 'matured' advice or judgements on how appreciative or grateful u think some people are, and i had always suspected that people who give this kind of 'lectures' are the ones who used to be like that themselves(no offence intended)
and sure there are indeed some really ungrateful and unappreciative people out there who always like to complain and grumble but i think it is not the subject of discussion in this thread.

i dont know, but i think the north east line gives the impression its faster in terms of waiting time and train arrival
NEL seems faster on non-peak periods but still loses out during peak hours...
speaking of train arrivals... some of the NEL ETA boards are placed in very unstrategic locations... take Serangoon station for eample. have to walk all the way into the station to the top up machines to see train arrivals and i have missed trains when i am in a hurry countless times.
especially at interchange stations, like outram and dhoby, just because the linkway belongs to SBS, the SMRT ETA boards are placed just at the SMRT station side rather than in the linkway itself like at the bottom of the 5 escalators going up towards the SMRT side. and there should be an SMRT ETA board at the start of the outram linkway on the sbs side.

Oh yes the boards at Serangoon Station. i agree, they could have been located at a better place (the 2 entrances at concourse level for example, or at the control there).
usu the LED boards at the street level entrances will display arrival time(yellow for harbourfront and red for punggol), they will alternate between HBF and PGL quickly enough for u to catch the timing, but if sometimes HBF or PGL dont show up, usually it means train has already arrived... usually if they display 2 min on the led screen it means u have to walk fast or run already....
as for the Outram/Dhoby interchange which u mentioned, this problem has always been my concern years back but not major enough for me to voice it out here, so thanks for mentioning this. I have always thought that if NEL belonged to SMRT alone they would have the sense to display arrival times of both lines at both sections of each station....now theres this SMRT and SBS 'territory" at Dhoby and Outram Interchange stations.
now when CCL open, lets see what will be the difference at Bishan and Serangoon Interchanges, because Bishan Interchange both lines are run by SMRT but at Serangoon there would still be SBS and SMRT 'territory'.
The Train drivers tend to drive slow motion during off-peak, especially NS direction.
In fact during PM peak, NS train drivers tend not to chiong on the train, drive slow instead.

You got a point there... To me the alternation between HBG and PGL ETAs are abit too slow for me as i walk rather fast =p... yea true somehow NEL's 2 mins is a really really short time compared to SMRT's 2 mins
oh yea we'll see about the SMRT 'territory' at bishan then! I'm confident they would put the ETA for NSL on CCL side... cos these are determined by the operator mah and thanks to 'duopoly' commuters end up losing out at some stuff...
