there's a bt timah train stn off bt timah road, next to the sterling condo near king albert park. sometimes, the lights are on at night.
any idea what it is used for now?
I doubt it is in use. Apparently the main train station was supposed to move there from Tanjung Pagar, but MY government was being a dickhead and wanted to retain their sovereignity over the entire rail track running the entire length of SG.
its scary if you go in the wee hours of the night.
personally had some ghostly encounters.

locomotives talking to each other.
The Bukit Timah Railway Station was once and formely a place where trains stopped to pick and drop passengers. After the Malaysian immigration decided to move to Tanjung Pagar station, the Bukit Timah station now serves as an interchange for trains that are meant to cross with each other, and also serves the activity of token passing.
Normally, the station master only pass the token, which is a form of a key, giving the locomotive driver the right of way to Woodlands CIQ.
There are three lines at the station. The first, nearest to the station platform is the mainline. The middle line is called the loop line, when there is a need to cross a train, crossing means two trains crosses with each other at the station. One of the train will proceed into the loop line and stopped till the train occupying the main line is cleared.
It is quite eerie at night, but if you are a regular to the station, it will be peanuts to you. I've stayed at the station from 3pm to 11pm/12mn till the station is closed. The station is quite a good place to relax, peaceful. You can bring your books to sit there and study or read or to just relax your mind.
You have to ask the permission from the station master first before using their premises.
Bukit Timah Railway Station
Like what interception_7 mentioned earlier, this station serves as Key Token Passing Station and where trains cross only. There are no boarding and alighting being made here. For example:
Passing of Key Token has been made here. This train also went into the loop line.
