the seat with the bars is facing directly at the door
i assume it's for the elderly to support themselves to get up?
cos my grandma with weak legs do require such support
but i dun think so lah
bcos it's oni a very small %age of the ah mas and ah gongs tt need this
dun allow ppl to sleep oso dun sound very valid...
bcos this think is like oni 1/3 of the bench
still can sleep on the other 2/3 -

ok, I dropped an email to sbs transit & here's their reply..
"Allow us to inform you that the benches at some NEL Stations are fixed with metal bars for safety and convenience of those who need it such as senior citizens, children, pregnant women and the handicaps. The grab bars will help these commuters in sitting and getting up the benches while waiting for their train."
