at 1330 hours, a train bound for marina bay at toa payoh station malfunctioned and a toxic gas was released. all commuters were told to evacuate but some still stand there blur blur. many commuters were left packed right outside the toa payoh station concourse while some transferred to buses around toa payoh station. at 1345, the malfunctioned train left toa payoh for bishan depot, train service resumed as per normal.
i bet its a refurbishd C151. but i couldnt see the train. i only got 3 pictures cos my camera has only 10 MB memory -.-
so its a 15 min delay..
could be due to some electrical fault on the tracks which might have caused some sparks to some of the train parts therefore the release of the toxic gas..
ya i do agree with QX179R's explanation. but it can also be the accidental release of Halon 1301 gas, a chlorine base toxic gas used as fire extinguisher in many of our mrt stn. well thats my guess.
well, we've got to see what smrt says about this incident (if any)..
btw, anybody was affected during that period of time..
and that's why there are civilian casualties.. everyone blur, dunno wat to do.
some pple just dun heed the advice..
just stand there & kaypoh..

i submitted to stomp le
i wonder if it'll appear in the "this urban jungle" or "in the heartlands" section..
lol also, add-in. Aircon was switched off.
have to be safe..
otherwise the toxic gas might get caught in the compressor then releases as air-con..
nvr take chances with toxic gases especially those odourless & colourless type..
listen to mp3 of cos blur la
after inhale the toxic gases sure more blur..

Commuters asked to leave MRT train at ToaPayoh after air-con unit emitted smoke
Commuters travelling on a southbound train at Toa Payoh this afternoon had to be off-loaded
after smoke was detected from one of the air-conditioning units in one of the train carriages.
938LIVE received several phone calls when the incident happened at around 1.25pm.
A spokesperson from the Singapore Mass Rapid Transit Corporation says the train was removed from service after passengers disembarked.
This resulted in a train service delay of about seven minutes.
SMRT apologised for the inconvenience caused and is investigating the cause of the incident.
Freon R22 gas.
Wow, then HAZMAT activated ???
update to the press release that I've posted earlier..
SMRT said preliminary investigations showed that the incident was
a result of a leak in air-con refrigerant gas which appeared as
'smoke'.
The train operator assured the public that the gas is non-toxic. - CNA/vm
Only smoke from an air-conditioning unit can create so much confusion, imagine a chemical attack...
"The control office kept announcing over the PA system telling people to evacuate the train and their staff were scrambling everywhere. People coming into the station didn't know what was happening, so they stood and looked. They also turned off the air con so it was quite stuffy."
Their Emergency Response Team sucks.
it's a C651!
Those in aircon repair sure knows R22 freon and compressor oil smells like if leak out. And it is not harmful. No worry.
