care to explain how it will ease congestion?
i live in north east part.
want to go west part.
can avoid the busy interchange in central area.
the end.
it would contribute to the huge congestion coming our way......
I'm at eunos, i wanna go to AMK.
currently: take from eunos to city hall, change train to AMK (about 30 min)
with CCL: take from eunos to paya lebar, change to CCL to bishan, change to NSL to AMK (about 20min)
all time estimate.....
basically shorter time, but more walking coz more transfer. haha.
+ avoid the crowd at city hall to orchard somemore :)

because 25 will take about 35min... :)
The benefit of the circle line is that it increases government spending which leads to (or have led to) economic growth.
couldnt find the old circle line thread, so im posting all my circle line pics here
Dhoby Ghaut station
for the circle line, they did not build any new station exits, but only built more ventilation shafts
Bras Basah Station
some station exits
the much talked about reflection pool, which is supposed to let sunlight into the 30m deep station
another station exit
Esplanade station
view of a station exit, shot from a distance (sorry for the fuzzy pic)
zooming in...
photo taken looking towards the other side of the road
overkill of greenery along the pavements
across the traffic junction...
another station exit
empty patch of land next to the station exit
i like the design of this station exit very much, nice and simple, unlike most exits for underground stations in singapore which tend to be much bigger and more elaborate...
a picture taken from the other side of the road (not taken on the same day)
more photos...
close up
Promenade station
dry risers
the sign explains itself
this thing is supposed to let sunlight into the station
DTL1 works
another station exit
connection to marina square
some works still remain to be done
DTL1 works- the signboard
the gate
Stadium station (taken in august, posted in some other thread some time ago)
still fenced up
looking in through the holes of the fence
the side of the station's exterior
Bishan station
PSD installation
new station exit
Marymount station
general view of the site from a distance
new bus stop
ventilation shaft (?) behind the exit itself
another bus stop that has since been completed
more recent photos... (taken about 2 weeks later)
drop off stand
station signages are up
lift access
bicycle parking facilities (i think)...
Looks good, but it should serve its function hopefully, ease the crowd and congestion

that's the intention but we'll have to see the reality in time to come
wow you took them? you go around sg ah???

probably it will fail cause no one knows yet what effect it will have on the Rush hour crowd. If the planning and implementation did not go well, there could be bottlenecks which become permanent. These bottlenecks in the solution may actually worsen the situation than improve it.
Tke for example your personal computer: Ages ago, the intel chip was bottlenecked by FSB speed, Cache size , hard disk speeds and other factors. The bandwidth was simply not enough resulting in the Cpu waiting idle for the information to arrive

isn't that what we're good at?
and soon peak hour public transport rates will kick in
i like to go in circles.. so i take the circle line.

omg I was about to post the Marymount Station photos.... Looks like I'm a little too late... Btw u actually travel along the lines to each station to take photos? Wa nice... Anyway I'll try and continue to provide Marymount updates only whaenever applicable...
actually, there are computer softwares which can simulate train station crowds and movements.
Buona Vista station is super jam-packed in the mornings. It serves the Biopolis, Ayer Rajah Industrial Estate, NUH, and NUS.
Having the one-north and Kent Ridge stations would certainly help ease the congestion there. At least it oughta make things easier.

i didnt take the photos all on the same day, though the photos of dhoby ghaut - promenade were taken on the same day as i walked from one station to another. frankly speaking i decided to take my own photos only because of an extreme lack of Circle Line pics of completed stations. anyway...
more photos today
Serangoon station
new station exit still boarded up
dry risers
pick up/drop off point
seen through another hole in the hoardings
this station exit is near the bus interchange. there is another new exit on the other side of the construction site, which i did not take pictures of.
Lorong Chuan Station
a station exit, seen from a distance
zooming in. this station exit is equipped with lift access.
the second station exit
Circle line won't be complete unless it is indeed a circle.
For me I won't travel to Dhobby Ghaut from Holland Village station.
Neither will I travel to Chinatown from Holland Village via Harbourfront and N-E line.
Neither will I travel to Orchard from Holland Village via Bishan and N-S line.
Neither will I travel to Changi Airport from Holland Village via Paya Lebar and E-W line.
Circle line benefits more to residents residing in the East than residents residing in the West.
For me, at present I walk from Holland Village to Buona Vista station. With CIrcle line, I may still choose to walk to Buona VIsta station.
Circle line benefits those who work and study in and arond One-North, NUS and Science Parks, for me there are already many bus services that connect me to those areas.
I will probably see the true benefits of CIrcle Line only it it connects from Harbourfront to Marina, and when downtown line (interchange at Botanic Garden) is up and running.

it benefits you by having less people crowd around your station.
I don't anticipate the opening of Holland Village station in 2010.
As the opening of Holland Village station spells the demise of many bus services that ply between Buona VIsta, NUS and Science Parks, SBST 95, 91, 191, 92, 200.
For residents in Buona Vista, public transport may make worse with the opening of Circle LIne Phase 4 and 5 instead.
Originally posted by skythewood:it benefits you by having less people crowd around your station.
According to my analysis, it is one of the confrimed benefits. Less crowd and get dispersed.
Right now i think the NS-EW lines are crowded because of their Non connecting nature.
Buses may at least benefit from it by being less crowded
It is not true if less people crowding Buona Vista station, I will be better off. The big crowds spell the needs for more bus services and higher bus frequencies.
Residents in BV relys on SBST 95 to travel to BV station. The opening of Circle line, will see less demand of SBST 95, and that may result in long waiting time and worse the withdrawal of SBST 95.
With less bus services and easier access to One-North, NUS (with Circle LIne) from other parts of Singapore, BV no longer a prime estate, BV is just another old housing estate along any MRT lines.

Eh in case you don't know, the majority of the people using 95 are NUS Students who are studying inside the NUS campus, which is quite a far walk to the new Kent Ridge station.
