About Downtown Line 2
8. Located along the Bukit Timah corridor, DTL2 comprises one depot and 12 stations, including three interchange stations at Little India, Newton and Botanic Gardens. The 16.6km underground rail system will connect commuters to the North East Line, North South Line and the Circle Line respectively. Construction work on DTL2 will commence in stages from mid-2009 onwards and targeted for completion by 2015.
My choices:
It is good to see that six of my suggestions were on the final shortlist.
So my votes are as follows:
And thank God "Hwa Chong" did not end up on the shortlist!
Downtown Line 2 station names shortlisted for public polling
Rochor, Stevens, Dutchess - just some of the names for nine Downtown Line 2 stations shortlisted for public vote.
The Land Transport Authority says these names were shortlisted from more than 3,000 suggestions received from the public.
With immediate effect, the public can vote for their preferred station names via LTA’s portal at talk2lta.lta.gov.sg.
The closing date is the end of the month.
The three interchange stations at Little India, Newton and Botanic Gardens are not included in the polling exercise as these are official station names. -938Live
Rochor
Whitley (felt the itch to choose Wayang Satu)
Duchess (not going to feed the Hwa Chong people, they want Kah Kee)
Sixth Avenue (why change?)
Blackmore (nice name)
Anak Bukit (Seventh Mile is 1/2 a mile away, Beauty World is a bit outdated and is a building name currently)
Dairy Farm (The station is not really near the main Hillview stretch)
Cashew (if you notice every other road in that area is named after a nut)
Zhenghua (Original HDB name for Bukit Panjang)

hmm.... i think dairy farm nicer.
cashew is fine.
i stay there leh
hahaha
cashew FTW!
Rochor (more well known than ophir or tekka)
Whitley (sounds nicer than stevens, wayang satu isnt well known)
Watten (naming it 'kah kee' is stupid, and duchess also sounds rather dumb)
Sixth avenue (bukit timah is too generic, eng neo is not normally associated with that place)
blackmore (king albert park is too far away)
anak bukit (beauty world is the name of the shopping mall)
hillview (upp. bukit timah is too long, just like upp. paya lebar, renamed to tai seng i think)
Cashew (fits the place better)
zhenghua (bukit panjang is already the name of the LRT stn...)
and mods pls close down the thread abt the naming of the 'hwa chong' station, its only going to bait flame wars...

Rochor more famous than Tekka? Got to be kidding bro! :D
As for Bukit Panjang, the proposed name is the same as the LRT station too anyway.

to singaporeans, Tekka already means little india. a bit weird leh. rochor is my choice!
My choices:
Rochor: Rochor
Stevens: Whitley (same as my suggestion)
Duchess: Watten (my suggestion: Bougainvillea Park)
Sixth Avenue: Eng Neo (same as my suggestion)
Blackmore: Blackmore
Beauty World: Anak Bukit (my suggestion: Bukit Timah)
Hillview: Hillview
Cashew: Hazel Park (my suggestion: Cashew or Hazel Park)
Petir: Bukit Panjang (same as my suggestion)
I live in Bukit Timah 7 1/2 mile, and I think Beauty World is a more beautiful station name (as the name suggests) than Anak Bukit. It reflects the historical surrounding of the area and has existed for a long time. Beauty World is not just the name of the shopping center, it is the name of the very old market known as Beauty World Market which was burnt down in the 1980s, showing the historical surrounding of the area. Anak Bukit is less recognisable in my opinion, and my grandmother, who has lived in 7 1/2 mile for 60 years, agrees than Beauty World is a nicer and more recognisable name. Anyway Anak Bukit is further away from the station than Beauty World Plaza.
And I really dont see the fuss over Kah Kee station. Mr. Tan Kah Kee was a great philantrophist that founded several schools in Singapore and China, including Tao Nan School, Xiamen University and of course, the Chinese High School. Watten and Duchess are small roads off Bukit Timah Road and if you ask me, people are going to recognise Kah Kee better than Duchess or Watten, which are just rich men's areas.
