Red Bull alleges SMRT to be blamed for Webber's failure in Night Race!
In breaking news from the world of Formula 1 ,
The Red Bull Racing team has reportedly blamed Singapore's MRT system as the likely culprit for Mark Webber's retirement in last Sunday's Night Race.
The Australian, was on course for a podium finish when his car's gearbox tried to select 2 gears at at the very same time and it broke on lap 30.
He went in for a pitstop immediately and called it quits after being told of the spoilt gearbox.
Red Bull's Team boss Christian Horner told Britain's Autosport magazine yesterday, that it appeared a sudden electrical surge at turn 13 was responsible for the mechanical failure.
Turn 13 is the Fullerton Hotel hairpin which leads onto the Esplanade Bridge.
And Horner believes that static electricity from an MRT train which was passing beneath the track, was somehow responsible for the gearbox failure.
He also went on to suggest that the electricity surge was probably the same reason responsible in Sebastien Bourdais's crash during Friday's practice session, at the very same corner.
Speaking exclusively to 938LIVE, Red Bull Head of Communications Eric Silbermann said they team is as certain as can be that the the breakdown was caused by static electricity from the MRT system.
However, he stressed that the team is regarding it as another racing incident and will not make too much of it.
Silbermann also congratulated Singapore for the successful staging of Formula 1's first night race and said the team is looking forward to the next edition.
IV real?
First they trip up us commuters, now they have went one step further to trip up the Formula One racers.
Well done, SMRT. Well done, Saw Phaik Hwa. Keep "moving" people, and keep "enhancing" lives.

he wasnt actually putting blame on smrt. frankly he didnt sound like a sore loser.
wa like that also cause the trip in gearbox meh?
so that day my house balckout, because of MRT la?
I dont think so, if it really does, then all our electronic devices will not be able to work in the train.
The lesson is that Singapore and its govt has to learn that dealing with the rich and powerful white folks is another set of game play altogether.
we all know the truth...red bull team is just not good enough....lol...excuses...
LOL wah damn funny.
Don't discount this as impossible. The F1 cars are full of electronic gadgets. That's also why they turn off the ERP gantries during the race.

I dont understand why people always like to condemn this company.
If the MRT train can zap so much power, even those high voltage lines just underneath the streets of the F1 circuit should have caused problems too.
I believe the teams have forgotten about the overhead spotlights lighted up during the race. These are also run by electricity, supposedly in high voltage. Such systems CAN also generate electrical pulses, similarly to overhead power lines in other countries. There are also speculations that overhead power lines can result in people living near it to have cancer.
so many cars go around so many laps for 3 days all no problem. this guy so heng to kana right.
rofl. now its smrt fault.
One minor flaw... static electricity is not strong in Singapore... That's why static dusters don't work in Singapore...
the track is not gonna be permanent. Good publicity for Singapore anyway.
and the gearbox tried to select 2 gears at once...
how the hell...
can blame then go blameLOL
are they going to say the surrounding buildings blocked the wind and no good?/
seriously, let's do some math here...
what on earth is the probility of SMRT underground \train being the fault of this little angel's gearbix failure comparing to the surrounding static. ?!
it's like so not possible lor =.=
more like his car itself got shorted... its possible. then his gearbox screwed itself
wah power la
loser will blame everyone except themselves
MRT
why not an aeroplane above?

lol... how abt a satellite went by and suck up all the electricity, and de rocket from china flew by and cause the static disaster =.="
I think all the F1 cars above would generate more static, enough to stall the mrt train below.
