actually, no I don't see an issue in doing that, but what'sthe point
but heard from my aunt who went on a HK trip found out that HongKongers stand on the right.
i don't find any problems standing on the left, since the left side of our body is 5 times stronger than our right. and i find it easier to run up the escalator on the right. when galloping down, not the right, neither the left, it's the centre..
I think ish coz when we stand left so those ppl that nid to chiong can chiong easier. Cuz more right hander mah
who cares? how difficult is it to stand on left when compared to right?
i always stand without hands and haolian to ppl and all WAH SO COOL and stare at me.
It really really really doesn't matter whether the rule says to stand on the left or the right, because majority will never follow. How many times have you had to rush up the escalator only to find some bloody dingbat on the right just standing there, completely oblivious till you shout at him/her to get out of the way? It's already countless for me.
They might eventually if there are electrical voltage sensors that zap those who stand on the right and place their hands too long on the railings. Can you say "spoon-feed", one more time. Sheesh.

Running up an escalator is significantly faster than running up the stairs thou.
One way I ensure my flight path is clear is by making obvious stomping sounds, which most reasonably attentive commuters will hear and automatically move to let me pass.
Finally, we are a Commonwealth society, so to the left we shall stay if we aren't moving quickly. It is not a matter of body strength (which as some pointed out, running up probably needs more arm strength than just standing), but ensuring most will be assustomed to it.
I prefer left. Traffic Rules. LOL.... I tink LEFT has already been emphasized in Singapore so much already... keep left.... =)
implement stand whr, u juz stand whr.
4 wat u geh kiang wan stand elsewhr.
Stand on the right with a sledgehammer and on the left with a crowbar.
When in Rome, do what the Romans do...
When in Singapore, do what the rest do

you sure significantly faster?
stairs is faster because no one is in your way.
and it will allow people to maximise the use of the escalator to 100% instead of standing one side, 50%.
because of selfish people who want to rush and don't want to take stairs, 50% of the standing escalator space is wasted.
i wud tink it is oso for safety's reason dat the escalator shldn't be packed.
if i choose to take the rite side, i make sure i move thru it fast.
and it's not becoz i nit to rush.
selfish is u bah.
stay left.
you're only staying there. use your weaker hand to hold on since you're stationary.
those in a hurry, keep right and right hand on the handrail so anything happen u can grab with your right-working-hand.
STOMPer dono this one meh?
no difference
campaign lauch so long alr, then she question about standing left or right. stompers are just too free

Yeah, agree.
I think that this stomper is damn lame as well.

In the morning, most people will follow.
But sometimes I think those old aunties and uncles don't know the rule so they never follow.

moving thru escalator fast is much more dangerous than packing escalator.
you are not rushing, just conforming to the standards.
how am i selfish?
u're not oly selfish, u're oso self-riteous.
eberione shld conform to ur standard.
coz u r oh-soooooo-rite.
