Train services could be affected at several stations near Jurong East next month
SINGAPORE: Train services at several MRT stations near Jurong East Station could be affected for a few days next month.
Channel NewsAsia understands that the services could be disrupted due to
work on a new platform and track at Jurong East MRT station.
The new structure aims to ease congestion during peak hours and space constraints.
This project is called "Jurong East Modification Project" (JEMP).
Construction is nearly complete and the signal and power system will be modified next month.
Channel NewsAsia understands the changes to the signal and power system
could affect stations such as Bukit Batok, Bukit Gombak, Boon Lay,
Pioneer and Joo Koon.
And this could happen on September 4-5 and 18-19.
Meanwhile, commuters are looking forward to the completion as it will mean faster and smoother travel.
One commuter said: "It's good they are trying to add another platform to ease the traffic." - CNA/vm
o.o What about CNG and LKS?

They will be obviously affected
There will be seven statoins affected. They are: Bukit Batok, Bukit Gombak, Chinese Garden, Lakeside, Boon Lay, Pioneer and Joo Koon.
Originally posted by wenjie639:According to the 6.30pm news
Due to installation of signalling and tracks for the JEMP sections,
The following section of EWL and NSL will be closed on 4th, 5th, 18th, 19th September 2010 :
EWL : Jurong East to Joo Koon
NSL : Jurong East to Bukit Gombak
wow
the most affected one is the EWL closure
What would happen.... Those living from Woodlands, Bukit Panjang, Choa Chu Kang would no longer take the MRT.... although some may have taken it right now....
For Woodlands and Marsiling, they take 187 or 963 and transfer to 180 at Bukit Panjang Road.
For those living in Bukit Panjang, take LRT to Bukit Panjang Int and transfer to 180.
For those living in Choa Chu Kang and Yew Tee, take 172.
For those living in Bukit Batok, take 157, 174....
Those living along the closed MRT stations along Lakeside may start taking 335 to Jurong East to take the MRT...
Expected increase in demand for SBST Services 157, 174, 335 and SMRT Services 172, 180, 187, 963.
Oh... I just realised the two closures will be on Saturdays and Sundays...
Well, I have watch the Channel 8 News on 10pm, so I roughly now then know. According to the news, it states that LTA is currently on talk with the operator SMRT so as to discuss how to minimze the inconvience to the paxes. In other words, it is UNDER PLANNING and nothing has confirmed as of yet.
I got a question:
Can somebody post the PG intake / 3rd rail power supply's location for EWL and NSL. I know it sounds OT, but come and think of it, why not they do this:
EWL:
Pasir Ris - Clementi "normal train" + 1 shuttle train from Clementi - Jurong East (Terminate at middle track), 1 or 2 shuttle trains from Jurong East - Lakeside (One from EB and WB track each), Lakeside - Joo Koon 4 shuttle trains (Normal trains)
Reason:
Clementi is used to be the terminus and has the crossover facility just like LTE services, so normal train can be deployed. The same theory applies to Lakeside - Joo Koon as well because it does not make sense to affect the 3rd most populous Jurong West estate and Jurong Point shopping centre areas.
For Jurong East - Lakeside, due to the lack of crossover facilities, the only best solution is to provide 2 shuttle trains on each platform, however it might not be possible on EB track side as it might be too near to JEMP site, hence 1 shuttle train for this entire sector is also suggested.
NSL:
Marina Bay - Bukit Gombak "normal train" + 1 shuttle train at most for Bukit Gombak - Jurong East / Bukit Batok
Reason:
While Bukit Gombak is never a terminus before, but it has a crossover facility to serve like LTE service (But no demand for SMRT to do so) and hence it is capable to do so. Regarding 1 shuttle train for Bukit Gombak - Jurong East, that is because as the new track crossover to the NB / Woodlands bound sector (Service 5), hence suddenly Bukit Batok can only use the Jurong East bound track at most because the crossover to new platform on Westbound side (Service 4) does not really involve the existing Service 4 track but on the morning Pasir Ris crossover train (Does not have during weekends) and hence the existing tracks for Service 4 is safe to use.
In any reason that such disruption is highly disruptive, bus bridging service can be provided along with shuttle trains as an alternative, including if there is no possiblity at all to shuttle train in Jurong East.
But why the LTA / SMRT did not thought of that and I did? Based on the reports above, I suspect it might be having something to do with the 3rd rail power supply. Well, they might just cut off the power supply and hence .... XXX???
Based on the current reports, the planning would be:
EWL
Pasir Ris - Clementi. Bus bridging services from Clementi - Joo Koon
NSL
Marina Bay - Choa Chu Kang. Bus bridging services from Choa Chu Kang (CCK) - Jurong East.
Heck, I do not know WTH are they not able to extend itself to Bukit Gombak, at least it wont be TOO disruptive to Bukit Batok residents as Bukit Gombak has feeder services within Bukit Batok Town. It is not like as if there is a direct crossover for this direction because to use CCK crossover in this case involves "Spanish solution" or the Harbourfront / LTE case. (So no difference if my Bukit Gombak suggestion was taken, it is not like a Tandem crossover can do a faster job or what)
I think e disruption is confirm, the issue is big now..
Entire Jurong & Bt Batok would be back to all bus system 20 yrs ago... Tat's why it's a big headache.
Clementi especially would face bottleneck.

Translation (by me, so don't expect it to be perfect):
Reporter 1: Jurong East MRT Station is full with people. This is a scene of the station during weekdays' morning peak hours captured by a passenger, which is then uploaded to the net.
To solve this problem, the relevant authorities decided to construct new platforms and tracks.
Passenger 1: I hope these facilities are ready soon, because there's once I boarded the train, it was very crowded. Once the train moves, everyone wasn't able to balance and I got stepped on. It was a very tough feeling.
Passenger 2: Most of the foreign workers go home during that time. Therefore the station has many passengers even during off-peak. (What do you think about it?) Very crowded, being inside feels like I'm a foreigner too.
Reporter 1: To make sure the new tracks and platforms are able to begin operation on time by next year, the authorities stated that from 4th to 5th September, and from 18th to 19th September, they will begin to join the new tracks and signallings with the current existing tracks.
During that time, stations near Jurong East on the East West and North South Line, will have to stop operating. The East West Line stations include, Chinese Garden, Lakeside, Boon Lay, Pioneer, and Joo Koon, and the North South Line stations include Bukit Batok and Bukit Gombak.
Reporter 2: With train services suspended, passengers may rely more on the buses. The authorities are now coming up with a plan with the relevant transport operators, to minimise the inconveniences during the disruption.
Reporter 1: SMRT may provide shuttle buses to ferry passengers to and from affected and non-affected stations.
Hi...i live near jurong mrt, can i post some pics here?

feel free to
they need to do some joinings and signals thus by switching off the 3rd rail. Like Samual Lee suggest do some train running along effected area, answer can but train will just static only.. cannot run.. see this figure..
... -- DVR - (sub) -- CLE -- UPD -- JUR -- CNG - (sub) - LKS -- BNL -- PNR -- JKN
-- BBT -- BGK -- CCK - (sub) -- YWT -- .....
there are substation like some u see between DVR and CLE under the railway viaduct. even myself saw it at a few metres away from CNG.
let say if UPD off the sub at CNG..
... -- DVR - (sub) -- CLE -- UPD -- JUR -- CNG - (sub/off) - LKS -- BNL -- PNR -- JKN
-- BBT -- BGK -- CCK - (sub) -- YWT -- .....
Trains can run until jurong east and thru NSL.. the effected area cannot run because the sub is off..
another example.. UPD wanna switch off at CCK
-- DVR - (sub) -- CLE -- UPD -- JUR -- CNG - (sub) - LKS -- BNL -- PNR -- JKN
-- BBT -- BGK -- CCK - (sub/off) -- YWT -- .....
trains can't run along BBT and BGK but CCK as terminal, CCK can run 1 crossover..
thus if UPD wanna switch of these 2 subs..
-- DVR - (sub) -- CLE -- UPD -- JUR -- CNG - (sub/off) - LKS -- BNL -- PNR -- JKN
-- BBT -- BGK -- CCK - (sub/off) -- YWT -- .....
can train running from Lakeside to Joo Koon??

I think its the train overhaul problems. If there is a defective train, no train from UPD can crossover as the section from "UPD-JUR" to "LKG" has its 3rd rail all off. Most probably its the third rail problem. Use the maintainance truck lah. Use diesel, don't use third rail.
Do you think UPD can still supply NSL trains on those days?
MAY provide shuttles? MAY PROVIDE? Does SMRT want me to hate them?
