For me I really hates that kind of design. The roof looks like a crane...
The structure may break if someone accidentally did not handle well
I would prefer SMRT to save costs by just building the same roof as what the old platform had. Also, this supports the consistancy of design.
sell the current roof and build a cheaper flat concrete roof and build shops on top.

the video is without the additional track and platform my friend. the plan has changed alr. they should just build the roof like the one at ang mo kio.

The roof is a suspension roof. With 4 tracks, they can use "suspension" to make the roof. Jurong East MRT MUST get a new roof or the whole planning is an epic failure. When the fourth track and third "island" platform is done, they will most probably replace the roof with the bus interchange since the bus interchange would be relocated somewhere slightly further away or maybe the plot beside.

As shown in the video, the commerical Hub, bus interchange and MRT Station will get a revamp together. Once bus Interchange done, roof done, shopping mall done. Ta-da your town centre
The video shows that its a suspended glass roof+light concrete roof. Judging from the way they build it, it is easy to remove it. It requires at most 3 days to remove the whole roof. They build it with parts and they piece it together, By reversing it, you can remove it easily.

The fourth track seems to be a last-minute addition don't you agree?

Even if 3 days or 2 days, it requires closure of the entire station for the entire day, so I can assure you that the old roof will stay.

I hate the roofs from Redhill all the way to Boon Lay. The roofs are stuck in the era (circa 1980s) Man. 21st Century with a 20th century roof. Separated by a century. =.=" Whose idea is to build MRT roofs like that ar? Think short-term but not long-term

You should be glad when compare to the ones in Yio Chu Kang & Ang Mo Kio design.
I am considering on the point of commuter's safety IF the old roof is going to change and did not close the station on the same time, not to mention the possiblity of having a small rain (No need like one flood in Bukit Timah Road or Orchard)
Just these 2 points can assure that change of the old roof is 10000% not possible. (Why Singapore Pools did not let us bet if the old roof will get changed or when the PSDs will be installed? )
Personally, I prefer Yio Chu Kang and Ang Mo Kio to the stations on the stretch between Redhill and Clementi (except Dover, of course), but that's just me. The design of those stations make them look like they were made from LEGO - they're so blocky and really look like they were built in ten seconds by a kid.

Lol. Yeah Yio Chu Kang & Ang Mo Kio roof design is... :-&. Man.
Nvm, ask those ppl that the Noose interviewed. They bet on anything. (Eg. How many red cars pass by in 1 hour). I bet nobody would buy Jurong Gateway because it looks too :-&

I think a 12 year old kid can design better than that

Just because of roofs, you want to complain?
Please hor, those roofs are not in Year 2000 till now ok. Those are designed by architects, way before the construction works began for the station.

It probably is. Just that the station might go "roofless" for awhile during the change.
