according to them its 14... and yes.. currently 14.. and every month 2-3 sets of cars coming... Total its 40.. if i heard the figures correctly....
Interesting... Nice to see all pics.
Thanks 9V-SKA for sharing pics with us.
Yes, SMRT will have only 40 trains for CCL although Kim Chuan depot can hold up to maximum 78 trains.
If I am not wrong, when DTL1 is opened in 2013, some trains from Kim Chuan depot will be "borrowed" to run the service line for DTL1 until DTL2 and DTL Woodlands Road Depot is completed in 2015.

it's a very long stretch running perpendicular between hougang ave 3 & upp paya lebar road.
i think they're the same. but CCL is 3 carriages.
Kim Chuan Depot ish just after Tai Seng Station ( if you are travelling towards hougang directions in SBST bus 80 ) on your right handside.

They are different because the NEL uses 1500V AC Overhead while the 750V DC Third Rail, the pantograph and the most probable reason why you see the overhead catenary in 9V-SKA's photos is that Alstom may not have third rail for certain tests.

harder to maintain the AC overhead cables?

Possible, although the benefits a overhead wire (which is actually a thin metal rod) can bring is much more than that of a third rail.
