Maybe 20 mins frequency?
They do provide NightRiders...
feedback your suggestion to SMRT lor..
i think part of the tracks actually undergo maintainence in the wee hours....hence there is no service

that's part of the reason too..unless you want to have trains derailed due to the faulty tracks which are not maintained
Originally posted by SGidoits:i don think by addin 1 train per hour will affect their maintain?
They will have to turn on power for the 750V DC third rail even if it is just one train but I think there was once during Chinese New Year when trains ran overnight.

I believe they will charge a higher fare if there are night rides.
maybe they have a reason for it?

LOL. once this service starts. we'll see train disruptions every week.
night time they need maintain their tracks esp now cos super old le. 22 years.
coz at nite they need to pump petrol
I think SBST should provide its usual services at overnight at 20-25 mins frequency.

Maintanence people need to inspect the tracks at night... to turn on the 750V DC power it would simply just fry them alive. Do remember the crew needs to get on the track too to inspect every inch of the track.
TS should just go home early...

yea. i see it often (i live next to a track). anyway in terms of cost it is not feasible to have night trains running. town area maybe got lots of people but what about the rest of the line?
Trains at night can only be feasible in long distance rail systems. Throughout the World, there are really few train systems which run trains overnight with regualr frequency, as in trains come in 20-30 min or any other fixed frequency. Even Japanese or European systems reserve the night track usage to sleeper trains and freight trains.
Track maintenance is one thing, the usability is also another... Repair works can be done while train is running, just that the responsibility of the train operators must be there. Working on the tracks is dangerous business.
Good idea. If they want to promote sg as a night city, they should implement night trains.

I think people still do not get the point. Like what 1224Y says, SMRT doesn't have night tracks. If only they saw further and built night tracks so that day tracks can be inspected at night while night tracks can be inspected in the day.
Unfortunately, Singapore does not have these because it's land area is too small.
There are night buses running though.

Need to repair track how? It's not always inspection then do nothing.

Its hard to differentiate night and day tracks...
For example, on large systems and where trains run on express (stop at few stations), rapid (stop at selected stations) local (stop at every station) a large corridor would be needed. Like in the States, there is the North East Corridor, which features four tracks parallel or more, and trains can run in the same direction on two tracks. In mass rapid systems like Sg, its not necessary.
Track inspection as in between the proposed night trains. If i can put one train on the North South Line per 30 minutes, then an inspection train will be placed somewhere between. Eventually the train would chase up to the inspection train but that would be at an area where there is a siding. Tracks will not need to be inspected everyday, and if our system is old, the Japanese, European, States systems how? They use the same track for 50-100 years and it still can support. The main thing is the electric system, that is where inspection is compulsory. Tracks leave it to daily operation observance will do good. Now we have things like Ultrasound inspection and so on, what is difficult...
