Hi people,
I've signed up for an 'industrial visit' to SMRT depot (Bishan) on 11th April (Fri).
Anyone with queries / requests (photos, booklets, etc?) for me to bring forward during the QnA session (part of the activities)? I'm sure you guys have plenty to ask about....
wow, that's gd & sure it'll be an enjoyable as well as an eye-opener to see what's going on behind the scenes..but most importantly, do snap as many photos as you're able to capture
Ask this question:
Why did SMRT change the annoucements for the worse?
I do agree, do ask why they changed the announcement system to something which is worse.

Well, none from me. Anyway, enjoy the trip to the depot and please keep track the EMU trainset no. under refurbishing at the central workshop area.
Why they don't provide first class cabin?
Is this visit open to public?

like no news about this leh but if it is open to the public then I'd probably like to sign up as well
Not open to public. Only for students in my faculty. Up to 30 applicants. (sorry....paiseh)
That's why if you guys have any queries, please post them here. If my application is successful, I will go and ask on your behalf :)
Question 1: Shitty announcements.
Question 2: trainset number under refurbishment
Question 3: ???
I'll try to snap some photos and upload it here....be prepared for a wall of text and (hopefully) images!

Trainset number no need ask. Manager433 will auto give one. =D
Is Manager433 an SMRT staff? If he is, he might know why SMRT changed the old good proper annoucements to shity ones.
Something I forgot to say:
Try to get this across SMRT:
Its not a matter of getting use to it. It is a matter of unprofessionalism shown by SMRT due to some words of phrases sounding weird and sometimes even pronounced incorrectly. For instance, Yishun was pronounced as "yee-soon" in the new annoucements and "Passenger travelling towards........" sounded the weirdest and most irritating. This is because the new annoucer's voice is too high pitched and therefore unsuitable for in-train annoucements. In fact, most of the annoucements and the "siren" sound irritating actually. Europeans who take a ride on our MRT will therefore think that Singapore is unable to use the English Language properly.

Why don't you e-mail this question to SMRT, and later post the reply here for us?
I don't think the staff knows the details, or give you a proper answer in the rush visit time...

I'm just a Sec 2 express student. Is it possible for me to I email this to SMRT without a proper adult NRIC?

Why need an adult NRIC? You just make a comment/complaint.
And you should give much "stronger" reasons to support your objection. "Missing Juanita Melson's voice" is not good enough.
Well, I actually like the new announcements in terms of a few things:
1) Tourists can know which platform to go at some stations like Jurong East where they don't know where the platform A and B is and the old announcement says left and right, but never state which platform is on the left and which on the right. The new announcement aced in this
2) Expression: At least the new announcement is more cheerful than the old one, comparable with Japanese Metro Trains. I do have to agree that the way it pronounce some stations like Yishun is a bit 'off'
3) Overall, I believe the new announcement are here to stay.

If SMRT wants to have platform A, B, C or D, they can have it but with Juanita Melson's voice. Cheerful? It sounds so irritating because the new annoucer's voice is simply too high pitched and unsuitable for this. The old ding-dong sound is much more smoothing to the ears and feels high class rather than the siren sound.
whatever u say is not gonna change anything. learn to accept it as part of your life. life isnt fair. jus live with it. im not interested in a trip to SMRT train depot but to SMRT bus depot esp AMDEP cos ive been to Bishan too many times ler. i heard AMDEP has a tough overcrowding problem. with yishun int gonna move to temp int soon. AMDEP would be in more trouble if the temp Yishun Int cannot park buses overnight.
go in Bishan Depot until sian.
Will update on a new thread with lots of new info and some (half decent) pics

When will you post the pics and the new info of the site visit?
