Anyway, I think the new ERL will be like the Tung Chung Line in Hong Kong, considering the crappy "High-Speed MRT" liner.
That is if they use pantograph instead of thrid rail. Third rail has its limitations when it comes to speed.
Hopefully they buy new trains with the Siemens VVVF inverter, that one sounds very nice, or the Alstom one (not the one on NEL, but the one with the Violin sound that can be found in other countries). The current 3rd gen Kawasakis use Mitsubishi VVVF inverters.
I'm quite interested to know where LTA wants to put the stations for East Coast line, and whether they want to implement an Airport Express kind of service to the Airport.
Here is my opinion,
Option 1
New Station someway in Marina Bay
Possible Depot at Marina East
(empty shell for Marina East)
Tanjong Rhu (far inside near condo)
Meyer (underneath Fort Rd, near TT Durai's house)
Amber (can be situated underneath junction of Tanjong Katong Rd and Mountbatten Rd)
Marine Parade (underneath Marine Parade Rd)
Marine View (underneath Marine Parade Rd at Marine Crescent/Terrace)
Laguna (outside Laguna park condo)
Bayshore (At junction of Bayshore Rd, Upp East Coast Rd and Lucky Heights)
Possible depot between Upp East Coast Rd and East Coast Parkway
Kew (Bus terminal: Upp East Coast Bus Terminal)
Track leading to Changi Depot if using current NSL, EWL system
XIlin (At junction of Xilin Av and junction of Changi South Av3, in East-West direction)
Changi Airport
Then either Changi Village, Pasir Ris, or Changi Aiport Terminals 4, 5, 6, New Changi Convention Center (one station for T 4, 5, 6, Convention will do, share station) if needed
Option 2
New station somewhere in Marina South
Then same as the above till
Meyer (underneath junction of MeyerRd, Tanjong Rhu Rd and Fort Rd)
Marine Parade (underneath ECP)
Marine View (underneath ECP, can serve both marine Crescent/Terrace and Marine Cove)
Laguna (underneath ECP near bedok South Av 1, can serve both the condos there and Seafood Center)
then same as above until
Xilin (no station)
Then Changi Airport
Airport Express option,
1) Separate Platform and tracks at City Area Stations (assuming they would connect East Coast line and thomson line like in their initial plan), Marine Parade and Changi Airport from the main line
2) Charge premium fare, give premium services
3) Share tracks with main East Coast line between Xilin and Changi Airport for Option 1, Kew and Changi Airport for Option 2
4) Gateless system at Changi Airport
5) Have one car as a baggage car
6) City Area check in
7) Design the train such that once it is 10+ years, it can go for its refurbishment and return into service as a normal train (not Airport Express train, I do think that MTR would be doing so for their Airport Express A Stock, next time train old, convert into Tung Chung line train, though need to to add doors, cos they only have 3 instead of 5)
Sounds familar? Its somewhat the system MTR is using.
