Well, then you haven't been observing enough. I've not taken trains for quite a long time, yet I immediately spot something when I took train today.Originally posted by ceecookie:SMRT cannot implement side mirrors meh?
If you've been taking trains regularly, you'd know that passengers FOREVER refuse to move to the middle of the cars even though there are bloody announcements for them to move. So who's fault? Go think about it.Originally posted by maurizio13:I think the main reason is they jam pack everybody like sardines, so everybody will try their best to squeeze in.
Therefore, if they have sensor or side mirror and people are still squeezing into the train, it will delay the train further, that's why the doors have to close automatically.
Main reason is, they should increase the train frequency to prevent commuters from squeezing which results in doors closing on commuters.
The reason is SMRT, not the fault of the commuters, it's beyond the commuters ability to increase the frequency of trains.
I would love to see people fighting when population reaches 6 million with the current transport system.
Uh, read the post below yours.Originally posted by Y_Shun:faster frequency, lesser packed trains, no problems with doors shut on communters. PERIOD.
So you admit that it is their fault for doors shuttong on them before adding 83 more train trips?Originally posted by Oceane:Y_Shun, there has already been news that SMRT is adding 83 more train runs during peak hours. Go read Shin Min Daily News (Today's).
I never did say that, did I?Originally posted by Y_Shun:So you admit that it is their fault for doors shuttong on them before adding 83 more train trips?
I wrote to SBS Transit, telling them about the incident that 'happened around 12:50pm' on the ST forum, and this is what Ms Tammy replied:
(1) There was no train arriving AT 12:50pm (which part of "around 12:50pm" did she not understand?)
(2) Train doors are equipped with state-of-the-art blah blah blah sensors and will retract once there's something caught in its way. The train will not move if there's something stuck.
(3) Our CCTV footage didn't show up any train doors closing in on a baby pram.
So in short, she called me a freaking liar. I would expect the same response for Ms Lee's letter.

BUT, TO has to refer to computer screen in driver cabs. That's because it's mandatory for them to do so before closing doors (and anyway it's already so easy to check on the situation). The only situation whereby I can think of, that passenger gets kiapped is:Originally posted by sbst275:Not always
Like I've said, there are cases whereby TO press for buzzer immedaitely aft the door opened
Like this, whose fault?
You sure? Wat you've been saying is theoryOriginally posted by Oceane:BUT, TO has to refer to computer screen in driver cabs. 1) Doors closing he try to rush, kena trapped in between.
Thats the one and only. As for commuters inside train but doors still close on them, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE because the doors have sensors to check if there's any part of a body still within kiapping range.
no lor. there is once the train move off before i board it at orchard station. maybe i too kind to let people out first and i deserve to be left outside. end up waiting another 8 mins for the next train. total time wasted around 10+ mins.Originally posted by Oceane:Well, but the thing is there's a TO to look out to see if anymore are still boarding. Usually for very crowded stations TO will step out from driver cabin to make sure that everyone boards before he closes the door. I believe the quickness in calling the door-closing buzzer is to hurry the passengers up so that the train can move off in time.
NEL trains is door-closing buzzer then within a standard time the door closes. The system doesn't care if anyone is still boarding.
Hands stuck? The doors will auto open if they detect anything in between...Originally posted by sbst275:You sure? Wat you've been saying is theory
I've ever got my hands stucked but train stil left off moving, how do you explain this? It even happened in the face of a tourist to add on the flavour
You're not answering my qn either... There are always cases TO opens and immediately calls for buzzer... So no matter wat commuter salah if the way you say it
Sometimes it's not tat ppl complain too much, it's you tat do not want to see and believe wat's really going on the ground

In Jap, during peak hour, the train arrives in 1min frequency.Originally posted by Scania:in Japan, they have pushers pushing people into trains...In Hong Kong, they stop people from boarding the MTR if they deem the train full (which is probably around the same level of load in off peak direction during peak hours in Singapore), such that people do not need to squeeze and people at next stop can board the train.
See the difference between those systems and Singapore's? They have people at platforms to guard the platform all the time and to do some crowd control during peak hours, although nearly everything in HK turns chaos when there is a No. 8 or No. 10 warning up and MTR and bus company staffs can't do much with the crowd going home then.
my fren said once she was not in a hurry so she gave way to the ppl alightingOriginally posted by Kuali Baba:I want to zoom in on the bit about people being unable to exit in time. Nobody bothers to give way anymore - it's not going to change if you keep the doors open longer. It's counter-intuitive but making way actually speeds things up. When will the morons learn?
i think the train operators must test the train doors again, or modify them to bounce open obstruction of certain thickness, say, 5cm.Originally posted by sbst275:Auto open???

its a joke larOriginally posted by Oceane:I never did say that, did I?
I always believe that SMRT staff are very meticulous in their work and never fail to impress me with their level of service. I'm also very satisfied with SBST's level of service. Usually you see people complaining about them, reasonable things I still can accept, unreasonable ones, you know what that means ah. It's the commuters, which are practicing kiasuism. So SMRT has no choice but to add 83 more train trips to supplement the crowd because too many are practicing kiasuism already.
