Well, if they can complain that they were late for work, why do they have the time to write such a letter? The thing is, Singaporeans only know how to complain; they can't even suffer just a little BIT. I wonder how many % of the people actually appreciated the efforts of the bus drivers. I wonder how many % of the people actually tried putting themselves in the shoes of SMRT staff of that chaotic morning? I know the ST is a channel for thoughts and discussions, but not a channel for you to dump your complaints! Frankly speaking, if you do read comments after each ST Forum letter posted, you'd find that they are 500% more childish than what people here write. Go STOMP, they are 900% more childish.
Let me ask, how many people here actually appreciated the efforts of SMRT staff of having to get to work hours earlier than before just satisfy the needs of the peak hour people? And how many here actually thank them?
I see few. Not surprisingly, Singaporeans' ego is hard to satisfy and supplement.
Be anti-SMRT all you want; I'd rather live in a more gracious world where people appreciate what others have done for them. If I, as a 15-year-old student, can be gracious enough to appreciate such things, why can't the rest? It only goes to show how disastrous Civics and Moral Education has been. Lucky for me, I get proper education from CME. That's why I believe in such things. Of course, the reverse applies; people who don't appreciate such things definitely have not received enough CME education.

u r just 15. u think u have seen the world ? come on.. wake up ur bloody idea. theres more to see. just because u r 15 n have received a civil n moral education, does that give u the right to critise the rest ? were u affected by the train disruption on tat day ? yes ? no ? i am very sure u wasnt even there in the 1st place. have u had the experience of going through all the anger and frustration that the passengers had to go though ? do u have that ? im sure it is a no. dont view things just from just 1 point. im sure ur teachers have taught u that. being baised isnt the way to go around. if u still think tat u r right and everybody else is wrong. go ahead. no 1 is stopping u. reflect on urself. tat will only show how well the education u've been reciving. -
As you can see, most of them who write to ST forum or even STOMP are complaining, and expect things to be done. As you know, Singaporeans are known for their NATO. I guess at the end of the whole episode, the ones complaining may not have the time to appreciate what the few people have done..
Imagine yourself as a stall owner with 10 staff and u are the one with the keys to open the stall every morning. one fine day, mrt got this happen.. u had a meeting for a $5,000 contract (not million.. if not u wuld be driving / taking taxis) and u missed it because of this whole incident which could have been handled better.
worse, your competitor arrived to grab the contract. by the time u got there 1 and a half hours later, u realise u suffered huge losses, your competitor is smiling away, your customer hates u and is gonna complain about YOU and your staff wants to claim OT since they waited so long n later must work extra hours..
how would YOU feel? note that ur own customer just threatened to complain abt u to the newspaper as well.. do u think ur customer cares whether ur train broke down? so YOU in turn, will complain abt the train! -.- -

I haven't been losing my cool at all. I've been smiling everytime I type my posts because I know even with my stand, Singaporeans still will disagree with me because they are too complacent. Then, what's there to be angry about? A forum?
I find it quite funny that people "gang-up" on me just because I have different perceptions of the incident. If you're saying I have garnered success from CME lessons, that means you haven't. Go back to school please. -

Yes, I agree. I know SMRT MANAGEMENT did not do a good job (again) this time. some people might have went to work late and missed something important along the way.
anyway, in such situations, I believe no matter how well the matter was handled, there are still bound to be disappointments and complaints, for it is impossible to satisfy everyone, just like any other plans or initiatives to accomodate a large group of people. so take it easy yeah?
my personal opinion is that SMRT had tried, but they could have done better. there is a chronic lack of information. and 7 hours is way too long for a breakdown that happened even before revenue operations of the day. whats more, it cut right into the morning peak hours.
frequency and planning for the bus-bridging services wasnt good. but, we must remember the trains were meant to travel along busy sectors, and running buses on these roads is bound to face congestion. and with all the people pushing and squeezing, further delays are induced. -
