Yah..I noticed. I agree with you man...the station names and " doors are closing" voice is very irritating. Sounds like a poly project, and the person's english pronunciation like quite sub-standard.
Think SMRT wants to freshen up their image, which is fine. But how can they any old how choose the new voice??! especially the doors are closing, and station name voice..we commuters hear it all the time, so it has to be soothing!
The " suspicious article.." voice sounds different though. Think is different announcer? That one is ok, quite refreshing and familiar. Like hear before somewhere else. -
they should change it like this.

buzzer plays and doors close together. we can save 3 seconds at each station this way!
not buzzer play. buzzer play finish then doors close. -
cannot lah. dwell times are fixed. 30s or 40s. bell comes up 14s before departure, and doors close 7s before depature.
0:00 arrive, door open
0:16 bell
0:23 doors close
0:30 depart -

very sian take mrt tamp > boon lay every weekday. 2.5mths to ord.

The NEL way. I prefer it like that. Although if they don't change the dwell time at the stations, it creates the impression that you're spending less time at a station. The thing that killed me taking the train today with the new announcement was the stupid tone they used before the "Next station" or "Doors are closing". Sounded like a flight where the pilot or flight attendant talked too much over the PA system. Blah. If they change that it'd be good. The station names overall are pronounced better. It sounds forced still, but in a different way. The intonation on the older announcements was weird, but this version tries too hard to pronounce every single syllable correctly.
Today 234 had the announcements on. Its highly irritating when you take long trips like from Paya Lebar to Clementi for me today. -

No idea. But looks like it. NEL's English and Chinese announcements also seem to be becoming more easily heard as well. I won't forget Xiao Indu or Kelama Engkau for sure.

I have to share my opinion.
I'm not trying to offend fans of the old announcement system's voice but I have to say that the new one is better.
Why?
1) The new voice sounds more localized and that somehow reflects on the Singaporean culture. I feel that the old one did sound boring after nearly 10 years and the accent was kind of...fake?
2) The old announcement system is to an extent broken. What I mean is that over the past few years, so many new announcements have been recorded that it does get to you hearing so many different voices.
As such, I think that SMRT actually is doing something useful for the commuters. -

A 05x/05x series train on the NSL this evening also had it. Can't remember the number sorry.
Yes it seems like it really has gone into mass production. One would understand that refurbished trains have them, now even more and more of the old unrefurbished ones start to sport these new announcements. Guess its not a poly project anymore.
Overall, any change in the voice and announcements does freshen up the atmosphere somewhat.
And the accent is indeed more local, it has more character.
And "Next Station" does streamline the announcements on NEL and SMRT somewhat. And "Doors are closing" does sound more complete and you pay more attention to it since its now 3 WORDS hahaha...
But the Buzzer is annoying. Then again, annoying works if it alerts you to the announcements, like those for Taipei and Hong Kong.

I just don't like the announcement "chime". The Kelana Jaya Line's isn't as bad as this one. I prefer the one they use for announcements proper like the please move to the centre of the car.
