I think they're worried that if they built more above-ground stations, more people would take it as a chance to commit suicide.Originally posted by DMC05:If you'd ask me, I honestly prefer above-ground stations. And what's not to say that trains above ground have to be noisy? There are rubber-tired metros too. But will we sink? I don't think so... Over the years they've built many underground expressways and underpasses but why didn't anyone ask this question then? So why should it be any different now.
To put it in perspective, has Manhattan sunk although they have a dense subway network?
True. I never considered that. But still, I'd prefer more above-ground stations. The rate of one-unders here isn't as bad as in London. And ever wondered why the suicide rate at MRT stations is higher than the suicide rate at LRT stations? Go figure.Originally posted by Oceane:I think they're worried that if they built more above-ground stations, more people would take it as a chance to commit suicide.
1 cm isn't much and its because of ground water. Not every part of the island has groundwater.Originally posted by anhydrouscoppersulphate:serangoon stn sinking what
Cause the speed of LRT reaching the station isn't as much as MRT? Then impact not so big?Originally posted by DMC05:True. I never considered that. But still, I'd prefer more above-ground stations. LRT travels at a lesser speed, and is lighter, so the impact of the person won't be so great; he might survive and be charged in court.Originally posted by DMC05:True. I never considered that. However, 1 MRT trainset weighs 30 tonnes x 6 = 180 tonnes, and they arrive into stations at a speed of 80km/h. Get rammed into it, chances of surviving are really low.
Until now I've only heard of 1 person who jumped into a LRT track and got killed, but there are many who jump into MRT tracks.
