For Sg such a small place and low ridership, it's not easy to operate and maintain such a large subway system. So it's unfair to say that SMRT's service is mediocre.Originally posted by Airbus330Captain:If you ask me, there is nothing to celebrate SMRT's mediocre service.
Are you kidding me ? If other countries can maintain their train system well, why can't SMRT ? Look at the tube system in London and the MTR in HK. Low ridership? Please tell me you are kidding with me. Have you ever taken MRT during peak hours? Have you taken MRT from yishun to sembawang when some of the trains terminate at Yishun ? Bullcrap !Originally posted by C751B:For Sg such a small place and low ridership, it's not easy to operate and maintain such a large subway system. All in all, we should celebrate it.

And back then everyone was gungho about providing good transport under the White Paper. Now is like shit.Originally posted by sbst275:Back then it was a stat board, profit was never in the mind
The gov'ts in other countries usually subsidize a lot for their subway systems directly or indirectly, but SMRT isn't treated the same. "Limited" fund (comparing to other systems) results in much limited service to be provided.Originally posted by Airbus330Captain:Are you kidding me ? other countries maintain their trains better? singapore's is one of the cleanest around already. YES i take the peak hour trains all the time. Since when did SMRT have a low ridership problem? They are the ones keeping empty stations like marina bay open and not complaining about it... The trains terminate at Yishun because that is where a large number of people travel up to and they have to move the crowds away from the city asap. just imagine if SMRT sends all their peak hour trains all the way to Jurong... waiting time increases to 4 mins, city stations get overcrowded, people like u start crapping up a different complaint. and if SMRT cant maintain their trains well, their batch of 10 and 11-year old trains wont be in existence any more. if u really dont appreciate the kind of trains we have then get a car and contribute to global warming. Bull your crap !Originally posted by Airbus330Captain:Are you kidding me ? If other countries can maintain their train system well, why can't SMRT ? Friend, just because you founded the Bus forums and the Planes forums doesn't mean you can come here and insult SMRT.Originally posted by Airbus330Captain:Are you kidding me ? SMRT isn't fantastic in how they maintain the MRT system, but at least its better than alot of other countries. many singaporeans complain bcos they don't know how things are like overseas, so to them SMRT is bad. not siding SMRT or anything, but people should appreciate that at least got an MRT system in the first place.Originally posted by Oceane:Friend, just because you founded the Bus forums and the Planes forums doesn't mean you can come here and insult SMRT.
SMRT did poorly for it's buses. We all KNOW THAT.
...
You may know more of buses and planes than me, but I know more of trains than you. So please get your facts right before you say anything. If you have any queries, you can approach Manager433 who works at SMRT. He's even more "pro" than me.

Trains terminate at Yishun to turnaround to supplement the peak hour crowds at the CBD. If trains DO NOT terminate, you go imagine what happens to the CBD area. Get that into your head. Trains turnaround at Yishun to supplement the peak hour crowds, not to turnaround for FUN.
If you live in Sembawang and beyond, you have 2 choices:
1. Get your arse out of the train at Yishun and wait for the next train which is towards JE.
OR
2. Wait for a JE-bound train to come and board it, and go all the w
ay to your destination.
Please get your facts right before you start giving bullcrap stories on how SMRT did not maintain it's trains.
For 1, SMRT has the cleanest trains I've ever seen. Compare them to Malaysia's KTM railway trains and from Indonesia, China etc., SMRT does cleaning of it's trains regularly.
2. If SMRT does not want to refurbish it's trains, do you still wanna take a old and filthy, with leaking air-con C151s?
